Chapter 185 Rescue in the Dark
There he was again-smooth-talking, one charming line after another.

Scarlett didn’t believe a word of it. She stood up from the stone bench and took a deliberate step back. “It’s late. I need to go back.”
With that, she turned to leave, but Damian was quicker. He caught her arm.
As Scarlett struggled, his grip tightened, effortlessly pulling her into his embrace.
His right arm wrapped firmly around her waist, holding her close against his chest.
At the same time, he guided her hand with his left, slipping it beneath his shirt until her palm rested against his abdomen.
He pressed her fingers against the defined lines of his stomach, looking down into her flustered, evasive eyes. “Feel it?”
Beyond the hard muscle under her touch, Scarlett felt nothing.
She tried to pull her hand back, but Damian held it firmly in place.
A cold sweat broke out on her skin. “Damian, let me go,” she insisted, struggling weakly.
He lowered his head, his gaze fixed intently on her face. He saw only panic and discomfort there.
His expression softened into something almost wounded. “You really forgot,” he said, his tone suddenly dejected. “Scarlett, you liar.”
With that, he released both her hand and her waist.
Freed from his hold, Scarlett had no time to dwell on his cryptic words before her phone rang.
It was Vincent.
Wary of Damian causing more trouble, she answered promptly.
“Where are you?” Vincent’s voice came through.
Before she could reply, he added, “Grandpa asked me to pick you up.”
Scarlett glanced quickly at Damian. He was watching her with a look of unmistakable resentment that sent a chill down her spine.

For some reason, she felt as though Damian believed she had wronged him.
But perhaps it was just her imagination.
After all, there was very little tying her and Damian together.
After a moment’s hesitation, she replied to Vincent, “I’ll be right out.”
Hanging up, she didn’t
she didn’t say another word to Damian. Instead, she turned and hurried toward the banquet hall.
But the closer she got, the more she realized something was wrong-the sounds from inside weren’t of celebration, but of panicked screams and the crashing of objects.
Only when she was near did she understand-something had gone terribly wrong in the hall.
The exit lay through that very room. Cautiously, Scarlett peered through the slightly open back door to assess the situation.
Inside, she saw overturned tables and shattered glass. A man was wielding a large machete, swinging it wildly.
Most guests had already fled. The armed man was scanning the room, shouting, “Where are you? Come out! Show yourself!”
When he turned, Scarlett recognized him-it was the same man who had tried to harass Lucy earlier.
Her heart sank. She suspected he might be targeting her.
Just then, a figure descended the staircase.
Scarlett saw clearly-it was Sabrina.
The enraged man spotted her and charged with the machete.
Sabrina seemed to realize the danger only then. Terrified, she screamed and scrambled back up the stairs.
As she ran, she cried out, “Vincent, save me!”
Scarlett watched as a door on the second floor flew open. Vincent rushed out at the sound of
the commotion.
Seeing the armed man chasing Sabrina, he grabbed the nearest object and hurled it downstairs, trying to distract the attacker.

It was clear the man was likely dealing with mental health issues.
Vincent’s move worked-the man’s attention shifted toward the thrown item.

The object happened to strike the door near Scarlett, forcing it open just enough to reveal the color of her clothing. The man noticed immediately, turned, charged downstairs, and headed straight for her.
Seeing him coming, Scarlett spun around and sprinted back toward the courtyard.
The deranged man raised his machete, closing in on her.
Just as he was about to reach her-the gap between them narrowing rapidly-Damian appeared out of nowhere. He delivered a powerful kick to the man’s side, sending him stumbling to the ground. The machete flew from his grip.
In one fluid motion, Damian kicked the machete into the swimming pool.
Overwhelmed by the rapid turn of events, Scarlett’s legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground.
Damian restrained the man until security arrived and took over.
