Awakened Housewife: Ignore Betrayer’s Begs
Chapter 221 Autumn’s Unspoken Lessons
Vanessa felt tears welling up but fought them back. “Daddy?” she called softly.

Vincent glanced up from his work. “Yes, sweetheart?”
“I don’t know how to paint autumn,” she admitted.

Vincent had been so absorbed in his own canvas that he hadn’t noticed the cheerful scene nearby. Following his daughter’s gaze, he saw Scarlett guiding Eric through his painting. Without a second thought, Vincent called out, “Scarlett.”
She looked over, expression neutral. “Yes?”
“Vanessa would like you to show her how to paint autumn,” he said.
Scarlett seemed taken aback. Her eyes shifted to Vanessa, who kept her head down, neither meeting her gaze nor denying Vincent’s words. After a brief pause, Scarlett nodded. “Alright.”
Damian, seated to Eric’s right, watched Scarlett intently as she stood.
His sharp gaze seemed to carry a silent warning, but she didn’t notice. She simply rose and walked over.
Both Clara and Eric looked up.
“Ms. Theron?” Eric began, but Clara gently hushed him.
“It’s okay,” Clara murmured. “She knows what she’s doing.”
Eric nodded and returned to his painting.
Scarlett settled cross–legged beside Vanessa. She didn’t look directly at her daughter, instead focusing on the blank canvas. “What did you have in mind, Vanessa?”
“I want to paint a kite,” Vanessa said quietly.
Scarlett thought for a moment. “Since the theme is autumn, you could paint the kite with a tree shedding its leaves in the background. That would really capture the season.”
Vanessa nodded. “Okay.” Her eyes drifted toward Scarlett–her mother’s eyes were so pretty, framed with long, curved lashes. She smelled nice, too, a soft and comforting scent.
Vanessa’s lips parted. She wanted so badly to say “Mommy,” but the word caught in her throat.
Just then, Scarlett finished the rough sketch. “There, all set,” she said, starting to rise.

But Vanessa’s eyes caught a patch of blood seeping through Scarlett’s sleeve.
“Mommy…” The word slipped out before she could stop it. “Your arm–it’s bleeding.”

Scarlett froze for a heartbeat at the sound of that word. Then, forcing calm into her voice, she said, “It’s nothing, sweetie. Don’t worry.” She made to leave again.
But Vincent had heard. He turned and saw the blood staining her sleeve.
“Come here. Let me see,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Scarlett shot him a cool look. “It’s fine.”
Before she could react, Vincent was on his feet, his hand closing around her arm. She tried to pull back, but his grip was firm.
As she stepped away, he swept her up into his arms, right in front of everyone.
“Vincent! Put me down! What do you think you’re doing?” she hissed, struggling.
His expression was grim as he carried her off the field. Over his shoulder, he called to Lily, “Keep an eye on the girls for a bit.”
“Yes, Mr. Stewart,” Lily replied, her voice uneasy.
Back on the grass, Clara heard the commotion and turned. She started to run after them, but Eric caught her hand. “Clara, you won’t catch up.”
Nearby, Damian watched the whole scene unfold, his jaw tight. He’d been holding a colored pencil, but as Scarlett was carried away, it snapped between his fingers. He tossed the broken pieces aside, his face dark, and kicked angrily at the turf, sending grass and dirt flying.
Felix observed it all in silence.
Scarlett struggled in Vincent’s arms, but his hold was unyielding. Only when he’d placed her in the back seat of his SUV did she manage to kick out at him.
Vincent’s expression didn’t change. He leaned in, blocking her exit, and tapped the door lock. Then he reached for the first–aid kit he kept in the console.
When his hand moved toward her injured arm, Scarlett pushed it away. “I can do it myself.”
He released her, but his eyes didn’t leave the bloodied sleeve. “You’re a doctor, Scarlett. You know better than to let a wound go untreated. What if it gets infected?”
Scarlett shrugged out of her jacket and rolled up her sleeve. “If it gets infected, then it does,” she
