Vincent had no response to her sharp words. He looked away, deciding not to engage further.

Scarlett finished cleaning and bandaging her wound in silence. As she was organizing the first- aid supplies back into the kit, Vincent’s gaze drifted back to her. His eyes landed on the bracelet adorning her left wristthe one Damian had given her.

His expression darkened instantly. This bracelethe said, his voice dropping lower, Damian gave it to you, didn’t he?He already knew the answer, but he asked anyway.

Scarlett closed the kit with a snap. That’s none of your business.

In one swift motion, Vincent caught her wrist, lifting it between them. His eyes were cold and intent. I told you,he said, each word deliberate, I don’t like you getting close to him.

Scarlett let out a short, humorless laugh. She met his stare headon. And I don’t like you getting close to Sabrina.

He released her hand and turned his face away. It’s not the same.”

This time, she laughed outright. Open the door. I’m getting out.

Vincent made no move to unlock the car. Instead, he turned back to her, his tone flat. As long as we’re not divorcedeven for a single dayyou’re still my wife.”

Scarlett found the statement utterly absurd. Am I really your wife?she challenged.

years, didn’t

His face was unreadable. Whether you were or not, you played the part for five years, you?

The words struck a raw nerve. A bitter smile touched her lips. Do you really think I still care

about that now?

This time, it was Vincent who fell silent.

Seeing he had nothing more to say, and unwilling to drag out the argument, Scarlett changed the subject. You’re Vanessa’s father. I hope you’ll pay more attention to her schoolwork.

Vincent’s eyes lifted to hers, gleaming with sarcasm. You have time to accompany other people’s children. Why can’t you spend time with your own?

Scarlett almost laughed at the irony.

The

way Vanessa treated her versus how Clara didVincent might not see the difference, but she felt it deeply.

After a long pause, she spoke calmly, Vincent, there’s no point in going back and forth. Just tell mewhen are we going to the courthouse to start the divorce proceedings?

His tone matched hers in coolness. And as I’ve said, before the divorce is finalwe do it one more time.

Scarlett had heard enough. You’re despicable.”

In an instant, Vincent seized her hand and pulled her toward him. She braced her uninjured arm against his chest, trying to keep distance between them.

He looked down at her, then slowly leaned closer, his breath hot against her skin.

She pushed back hard, but her strength was no match for his.

Vincent pressed his forehead to hers, his voice dropping to a murmur. How about we try right now?

Scarlett glared at him, fury in her eyes.

He seemed almost amused. With so many people aroundwant to find some excitement?

Unable to bear another word, she raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.

The impact stung her palm. His jaw was like iron.

Vincent’s head snapped to the side. He closed his eyes for a second, and when he turned back, his gaze was blazing.

In one movement, he shifted his weight, pressing her into the corner of the back seat. His lips trailed along her neck and ears.

Scarlett struggled violently. Vincent, let me go! You’re insane!

Unmoved, he bit her earlobenot hard, but enough to sting.

She jolted at the sharp sensation.

Feeling her reaction, he only intensified his hold. His hand slipped beneath her shirt, circling her waist with ease.

Trapped and unable to break free, Scarlett felt her eyes burn. Tears of frustration welled up and rolled down her cheeks.

Just as his mouth found the corner of her lips, Scarlett seized her chanceand bit his cheek. Hard.

She didn’t hold back. The taste of blood spread in her mouth almost instantly. Startled, Vincent pulled away.

He didn’t

go far, his large frame still caging her in, casting her fully in his shadow.

He touched the spot where she’d bitten him; his fingertips came away stained with blood.

But he wasn’t angry. Instead, he let out a low, scornful laugh.

Outside the car, Damian had grown restless back on the lawn. Worried about Scarlett, he’d eventually followed the path Vincent had taken.

When he reached the vehicle and looked through the windshield, what he saw looked like Vincent and Scarlett locked in a passionate kiss.

Inside, the two figures seemed completely absorbed in each other.

Watching the scene, the anger in Damian’s chest finally cooled, and hardened into something far heaviera deep, settling disappointment.
