The following evening, after Scarlett and Vincent finished visiting Xavier at the hospital, they walked out together into the cool night air.
Standing near the curb, Scarlett hesitated for a moment before turning to Vincent. “There’s something I wanted to talk to you about.”
“What is it?” he asked.
Not one to drag things out, Scarlett got straight to the point. “Would you consider routing your company’s transactions through my brother’s financial platform?”
The streets outside were still busy, even though the evening commute had eased.
A steady stream of headlights flowed past, and the sidewalk was dotted with people heading home or out for the night.
Under the soft orange glow of the streetlamps, the city hummed with a low, constant energy.
She hadn’t really expected him to agree. In fact, after everything that had happened recently, she was almost certain he’d say no.
Just the other night, Claire had told her the rougher side of the story—the man who’d been drinking with Daniel and putting pressure on Violet was none other than Sabrina’s own brother.
Regardless of how things had unfolded that evening, from Caleb’s point of view, Scarlett had messed up his plans. And Caleb was Sabrina’s brother, while Vincent was deeply in love with Sabrina. Given all those layers, there was no reason for him to do her any favors.
But seeing Violet swallowing her pride to secure deals, and Nathan working late every night without a break, had pushed Scarlett to ask anyway.
Vincent seemed to consider it for a moment, then replied, “Sure.”
Scarlett was visibly surprised. She hadn’t expected that.
“Why did
you agree?” she asked, unable to hide her confusion.
He answered without hesitation, “Your brother’s financial firm is solid. It makes good business sense. This would be a win–win.”
Scarlett’s brow furrowed slightly. “But Caleb’s also been looking for partnerships lately.”
Given Vincent’s feelings for Sabrina, she assumed he’d use this kind of opportunity to help her

brother.
But surprisingly, he’d agreed to route the business through Nathan’s platform instead.

Vincent understood what she was implying. A faint smile touched his lips. “I know what you’re thinking. I’ve looked into the financial company Sabrina’s brother started. His platform is still new. Even if you hadn’t asked, I wouldn’t have chosen it at this stage. And if Sabrina finds out I didn’t give the business to her brother, she won’t hold it against me. She trusts me, she understands how I operate, and she always puts me first.”
He paused briefly, then added, “Once her brother’s company is more established, I’d be open to collaborating on other projects.”
Hearing the quiet confidence in Vincent’s voice when he spoke about Sabrina, Scarlett fell silent. She didn’t quite know how to respond.
Finally, she just said, “Alright.”
With that, she got into her car and drove off.

It was 8:30 p.m. when Scarlett arrived back at Theron Manor.
Dinner had been served later than usual lately–either Violet or Nathan often got work.

When Scarlett walked in, the family had just settled at the dining table. Seeing her, Henry motioned for one of the staff to set another place.
The mood around the table was heavy. Nathan wasn’t smiling, and Violet looked worn out. Scarlett knew they were both worried about the company.
No one spoke much as the meal began.
About halfway through, Nathan’s phone buzzed on the table.
Even with everyone present, the room instinctively quieted when his phone rang.
So when he answered, the caller’s voice came through clearly.
It was Abbott. “Mr. Theron, hello. This is Abbott, Mr. Stewart’s assistant. He asked me to reach out to you about a potential collaboration.”
Abbott’s tone was respectful and professional.
Scarlett watched Nathan, waiting for his response. Abbott was waiting too.

After a short silence, Nathan finally replied, “Hello, Mr. Abbott. Please thank Vincent for me. I appreciate the offer, but the Theron family prefers not to be in his debt. There’s no need to discuss this further.”
Nathan’s refusal took Scarlett by surprise. Countless firms would jump at the chance to work with Stewart Group, and here they were, reaching out proactively–and Nathan was turning them down.
Especially now, of all times. Shouldn’t he have accepted Vincent’s help?
Without new business, Theron Financial wouldn’t last much longer.
Abbott seemed like he wanted to say more, but Nathan ended the call before he could.
