Before Scarlett could say anything about the ended call, Nathan looked up and cut her off firmly. “I’ve already secured a new partnership. It’s not with a major corporation, but it’s solid enough to stabilize our foundation for now.”

He continued in a calm tone, “You and Vincent are heading for a divorce. Yes, my company was in a tough spot, but I won’t have you compromising yourself or making deals with Vincent out of desperation. I know perfectly well his offer wasn’t made because my company is so exceptional.”

Scarlett listened quietly, lowering her head without arguing.

Nathan didn’t elaborate further, simply offering a faint smile. “Let’s just eat. Consider these past couple of days behind us.”

Scarlett looked up at him, still uneasy. “Which company did you partner with, Nathan?”

Nathan took a bite of food before answering, “An aerospace company–moderately sized. Theron Financial is secure for now.”

“So these past two days, you were finalizing this partnership?” Scarlett pressed.

Nathan nodded. “Yes.”

Violet, who had been silent all this time, suddenly teared up at his words.

Seeing her cry, Nathan quickly handed her a tissue. “What’s wrong?”

Violet shook her head, wiping her eyes. “Nothing. I just feel that marrying you was the best decision I’ve ever made.”

Nathan wrapped an arm around her, soothing her gently. “And being able to marry you is my greatest pride.”

With the Theron family’s crisis resolved, a weight finally lifted from Scarlett’s heart.

At Felix’s place, it was rare for the friends to be gathered together like this.

Eric had already gone to bed, so only Felix, Damian, and Zachary remained in the living room. A bottle of red wine and three glasses sat on the coffee table.

Zachary was on a call by the floor–to–ceiling window, while Damian lounged lazily on the sofa and Felix sat upright. Through the glass, they could see Zachary’s reflection as he spoke.

Damian sat up straighter. “Well?” he asked, sounding unusually tense.

Zachary frowned slightly but told the truth. “It’s done.”

Hearing that, Damian relaxed, leaning back against the sofa with a long exhale. “Good.”

Truth be told, he’d been more worried about Nathan’s lack of partnerships than Nathan himself. If the Theron family was in trouble, Scarlett was in trouble.

Seeing Damian so invested, Zachary couldn’t help asking, “Why not help them directly? Helping anonymously like this–the Therons won’t see it, Scarlett won’t see it. What’s the point?”

Damian closed his eyes, his tone detached. “If I showed my face, do you think Nathan would accept the deal?”

Zachary didn’t answer that. Instead, he stated matter–of–factly, “You’ve developed real feelings for her.”

The word “feelings” seemed to irritate Damian. He scoffed, “Get lost.”

Zachary pressed on, undeterred. “It’s unrequited, isn’t it?”

Damian’s eyes snapped open, shooting a cold glare at Zachary. “No one would mistake mute if you shut up.”

Zachary continued, “Since you can’t have her, why not play dirty? Get her pregnant with your child first.”

Damian didn’t respond, just kept glaring fiercely.

Once Zachary finished his teasing, Felix spoke to Damian seriously, “Eric’s fall field trip is next week. Are you going?”

Damian picked up his glass, the crimson liquid sliding down his throat. His Adam’s apple bobbed twice before he set the glass down heavily.

He shot a cold glance at Felix. “Stupid question.”

With that, he stood and left without another word.

Zachary and Felix exchanged a look.

Zachary said, “When Damian falls in love, it’s us who suffer.”

Scarlett spotted him from afar and walked over, intending to get directly into the car.

Scarlett turned to look at him. Through the haze of smoke, even with the strong smell of tobacco, she could detect a hint of a woman’s perfume on him.

Scarlett took a step back, waving the smoke away. “Stay away from me. You smell awful.”
