Vincent frowned at her words. He lifted his collar and sniffed it himself, then said with genuine confusion, It smells fine to me. What’s so bad about it?

Hearing that, Scarlett didn’t see the point in arguing further. In his mind, everything about Sabrina was perfect. Why bother with a pointless debate?

In the end, she still insisted on sitting in the back seat.

Vincent had no choice but to accept it. Remembering that Xavier was waiting, he started the car and drove off.

He kept all the windows down the entire way, letting the chilly night air rush through the vehicle.

Scarlett sat upright in her seat. Her eyes instinctively drifted to the storage compartment between the front seats, where two lipsticks and a compact powder case were visible.

They were from highend brandsthe kind only someone in Vincent’s social circle would typically afford. There was no doubt they belonged to Sabrina.

Scarlett stared for a moment before turning her gaze away.

The windows remained open throughout the drive. Rivergate City was already in early winter, and the night wind wasn’t just coldit felt like it was cutting right through to the bone.

Scarlett’s hair whipped wildly in the wind, tangling across her face.

She knew Vincent was doing this on purpose, trying to provoke her into complaining.

But she didn’t utter a single word of protest.

Only when the car finally came to a stop did Scarlett slowly begin smoothing her windtossed hair and straightening her clothes.

Vincent glanced at her through the rearview mirror. Well? Does it smell better now?

Scarlett, now tidied up, pushed the car door open and stood outside, watching as he got out.

When he stood before her, she met his eyes and said calmly, Vincent, you’re saturated with it. No amount of airing out or washing will get that scent off you.

With that, she turned and walked toward the hospital entrance.

Hearing her words, Vincent raised an amused eyebrow, then quickly caught up with her in a

As he reached her, he naturally took her hand. She tried to pull away, but his grip was firm. Stopping in her tracks, she glared at him. Vincent, what are you doing?

Vincent smiled faintly, looking down at her. He lowered his voice. Grandpa is in the hospital. Dozens of people visit him every day. He has eyes everywhere. If we don’t act a little closer and he finds out, he’ll get upset again.”

Hearing this, Scarlett gave up struggling.

Fine. She could endure it. It would all be over soon.

Inside the elevator, Scarlett finally broke free from his grip. We don’t need to pretend in here.”

Vincent stood straight, glancing at her. It’s our turn for night duty tonight.

Scarlett was taken aback. You didn’t tell me that.

Vincent replied casually, I just remembered. But don’t worry, I’ll have Abbott bring over toiletries for us.

Before Scarlett could protest, the elevator doors opened, revealing Xavier himself standing there in his hospital gown, leaning on his wooden cane.

Seeing Scarlett and Vincent, his previously stern face immediately broke into a warm smile.

You’re here?he asked, clear delight in his voice.

As Vincent stepped out, he reached back and took Scarlett’s hand again.

With Xavier right there, Scarlett didn’t resist.

He led her out of the elevator. Seeing this, Xavier’s smile widened even more.

Xavier had been about to take a walk downstairs, but since Scarlett and Vincent had arrived, he decided to return to his room with them.

The room was now free of other visitors, but it was filled with bouquets, fruit baskets, and various gifts.

Xavier sat on the edge of the bed, gesturing for Scarlett and Vincent to take the sofa across from him.

Once everyone was seated, Xavier asked, puzzled, Where’s Vanessa? Why didn’t you bring her?

Knowing it was Scarlett and Vincent’s night to stay, he had been expecting to see his great-

Vincent replied smoothly, Vanessa has school tomorrow, so I left her at Ravenshade Villa. Lily is looking after her, so don’t worry, Grandpa.

Hearing this, Xavier frowned. That won’t do. Lily is a nanny. She can’t replace her parents. Let it slide for today, but tomorrow I’ll go to Ravenshade Villa to see her.”

Scarlett sat silently the entire time.

Hearing Xavier’s words, she instinctively glanced at Vincent, curious about his reaction. .

Sure enough, he seemed slightly panicked. His voice came out a bit strained. Grandpa, if you really want to see Vanessa, I’ll bring her to see you tomorrow. Your health hasn’t recovered yet; you shouldn’t be leaving the hospital randomly.

Perhaps Xavier didn’t grasp the underlying meaning, but Scarlett understood perfectly.

While Vincent was concerned about Xavier’s health, his greater fear was his hidden arrangement being discovered.
