Xavier was clearly displeased with Vincent’s response. His tone sharpened as he demanded, “What? Am I no longer welcome at Ravenshade Villa?”
Vincent maintained a calm facade, replying evenly, “Let’s wait until you’re discharged, Grandpa.”
This only deepened Xavier’s irritation. His expression tightened. “Are you suggesting I’m becoming a burden?”
Vincent attempted to explain, “No, I’m only thinking of your health.”
Xavier waved him off impatiently and turned to Scarlett, his voice softening. “What about you, Scarlett? Do you not want me to visit either?”
Caught off guard by the direct question, Scarlett showed no outward panic. She met his gaze steadily.
Just as she was about to respond, she felt a subtle tug on her sleeve–Vincent silently urging her to support his position.
After a moment’s consideration, she carefully replied, “Grandpa, your health should indeed come first. But you’ll always be welcome at Ravenshade Villa whenever you wish to visit.”
While her words temporarily resolved Vincent’s immediate concern, they created potential complications for the future.
With Scarlett’s reassurance, Xavier reluctantly conceded. “Well, since Scarlett says so… Alright then. I’ll drop by unannounced another time. And Vincent–if I discover you’re treating Scarlett poorly, you’ll face serious consequences.”
Vincent forced a strained smile. “Of course, Grandpa. You’re welcome anytime. I treat Scarlett better than I treat myself.”
Scarlett knew exactly how much those hollow words cost him.
Xavier didn’t press further but stood up, leaning on his cane. “Now, come take me for a walk.”
Scarlett glanced at Vincent, who returned her look with a sharp glare. His meaning was clear- he believed she had misspoken.
But she hadn’t misspoken at all. She had chosen her words deliberately for Xavier’s benefit. Only if Xavier witnessed Vincent’s true nature firsthand would he finally accept their inevitable divorce.

Chapter 239 An Unwelcome Matchmaker
Together, Scarlett and Vincent each took one of Xavier’s arms and escorted him from the
room.
They had just reached the hospital’s garden courtyard when they encountered Nolan in casual attire.
He seemed genuinely surprised to see Scarlett.
When he spoke, his voice held noticeable warmth. “Scarlett?”
That particular tone when he said her name made Xavier frown, his expression turning. guarded.
Scarlett was equally surprised to see Nolan.
After a brief hesitation, she smiled and greeted him. “What a coincidence, Nolan. I didn’t expect to run into you here.”
Nolan returned her smile. “Indeed. Actually, I was just about to call you.”
Scarlett, still supporting Xavier’s arm, looked at Nolan, completely unaware of the disapproval in Xavier’s eyes.
Vincent seized the opportunity while they were talking to pull out his phone. To Xavier, it likely appeared he was handling business matters.
Scarlett’s attention remained on Nolan. “Did you need something, Nolan?”
Nolan’s smile lingered. “Dr. Newman is holding an academic seminar this weekend. Will you be attending?”
Scarlett agreed without hesitation. “Yes, I’ll be there.”
Before Nolan could respond, Xavier suddenly interjected, “You seem quite young. Are you married?”
Vincent, who had been on his phone, immediately put it away upon hearing Xavier’s question.
When Scarlett glanced at Xavier, she also noticed Vincent’s quick movement. She suspected he had been messaging Sabrina–perhaps exchanging affectionate words or checking on Vanessa.
Nolan shifted his gaze from Scarlett to Xavier. “Not yet,” he replied calmly.
Hearing this, Xavier adopted a kindly demeanor. “Since you’re a friend of Scarlett’s, I’d be happy to make introductions. What would you say to me setting you up with someone suitable?”

Nolan didn’t need to consider the offer. He refused outright. “Thank you, but that won’t be necessary. I already have someone in mind.”
As he spoke, he instinctively glanced toward Scarlett.
Xavier, experienced in such matters, immediately recognized Nolan’s unspoken interest.
Vincent had known from their first meeting that Nolan’s interest in Scarlett wasn’t purely professional, though he hadn’t particularly cared.
Now, however, Xavier was taking issue with it on his behalf.
Even after Nolan’s refusal, Xavier persisted. “What about the daughter of the Warren family?”
In their social circles, the prominent families were well–known: the Stewarts, the Langleys, the Lennoxes, the Grahams, the Whitmores, and the Warrens…
