The “daughter of the Warren family” Xavier mentioned was clearly from a prominent background.

Scarlett even thought that if Nolan could marry the Warren heiress, his professional standing would undoubtedly rise given his capabilities.
But before she could ponder further, Nolan responded firmly, “I appreciate the offer, but it’s really not necessary.”
Xavier had expected the Warren name to give the young man pause. To his surprise, he saw only quiet determination in Nolan’s eyes.
Still, Xavier wasn’t ready to concede. He hinted meaningfully, “For a young man, choosing the right connections is often more important than choosing the right career path.”
His words carried clear implication.
Nolan remained unmoved. “Some things were never meant to be mine. Why force them?”
Seeing Nolan’s steadfastness, Xavier sighed faintly. “You’re still young.”
Nolan offered a faint smile. “The path you speak of may not necessarily lead where I want to go.”
Xavier didn’t reply, merely letting out a soft, dismissive sound.
Vincent, noticing his grandfather’s waning interest, suggested, “Grandpa, shall we continue our walk?”
Scarlett released Xavier’s arm. After Vincent led him away, she turned to Nolan. “Don’t take Grandpa’s words to heart. Just stay true to yourself.”
Nolan understood perfectly that Xavier had been testing him, dangling the shortest path to success as temptation.
But in Nolan’s view, status built through marriage was hollow. He wasn’t someone who would climb socially using a woman’s connections.
Hence, his refusal had been firm.
That brief exchange was enough for Nolan to sense that Xavier was a formidable man.
After a moment’s thought, he couldn’t help asking Scarlett, “I thought you were planning to divorce?”

Scarlett nodded. “Yes. We’re in the separation period now.”
Hearing this, Nolan relaxed slightly. “The Stewarts are businesspeople through and through. Businesspeople prioritize profit above all. Don’t place too much trust in Xavier.”
Scarlett agreed quietly. “I know.”
Just from Xavier’s attempted manipulation of Nolan, she could tell Xavier was no benign figure.
Perhaps he treated her with relative kindness simply because she was still his granddaughter- in–law.
Xavier, who had walked some distance ahead, noticed Scarlett hadn’t caught up. He looked back.
Seeing her still conversing with Nolan, his expression darkened. He called out firmly, “Scarlett, aren’t you coming?”
Hearing him, Scarlett quickly responded, “Coming!”
She then said to Nolan, “Once the divorce is finalized, I’ll distance myself from the Stewarts, including Xavier.”
Nolan felt relieved. “Good. Everything will work out. You should go.”
Scarlett nodded and hurried to catch up.
When she rejoined Vincent and Xavier, she remained silent.
Xavier didn’t press further. They continued strolling through the garden, eventually resting in a gazebo.
After about half an hour, Xavier announced it was time to return to his room.
In the elevator on the way up, Scarlett saw Xavier’s reflection in the polished metal doors. His expression was stern, his voice laced with displeasure. “Scarlett, I want to ask you–what exactly is your relationship with that man from earlier?”
Vincent, standing beside her, glanced at her as if ready to answer, but she didn’t give him the chance.
Scarlett explained truthfully, “Grandpa, Nolan was my senior in college. He’s a good friend.”
Xavier nodded slowly, a look of understanding dawning, then said, “Your grandmother was an accomplished writer before we married. She published several books, had many readers, and countless admirers. But after we married, she set aside her writing. As for male friends… she

Scarlett immediately understood his implication. He was indirectly reminding her that as a married woman, she shouldn’t maintain close friendships with other men.
But Scarlett found his reasoning flawed. Without directly challenging him, she said, “Grandmother must have been remarkable. To set aside her own passions for love…”
Xavier quickly countered, “It wasn’t really a sacrifice. I provided her with a comfortable life, free from financial worries. Besides, writing never brought in significant income.”
Hearing Xavier dismiss his wife’s passions so casually, a pang of sadness struck Scarlett. “Perhaps what Grandmother wanted, from beginning to end, was never financial security?”
