After helping Scarlett finish her dinner, Damian poured her a cup of warm water and made sure she drank it.
Not long after, her fever returned.
Damian gave her fever reducers, and she eventually drifted back to sleep.
That entire night, Damian didn’t close his eyes once.
He stayed beside the bed, constantly dabbing the sweat from her brow, pulling the blanket up when she shivered, and easing it down when she grew too warm.
It wasn’t until the first light of dawn that he finally rested his head on the edge of the mattress, still holding her hand, and fell into an exhausted sleep.
Curled awkwardly beside the bed–too tall for the space–he looked uncomfortable, but exhaustion overtook him quickly.
Scarlett stirred vaguely, aware of someone clutching her hand almost too tightly.
When she opened her eyes, she found Damian asleep beside her, his grip firm as though afraid she might slip away.
She tried to shift her hand, but he didn’t wake. Instead, he turned his face closer to hers–so close that if she leaned down slightly, she would touch his cheek.
She studied his sleeping face–the straight nose, defined features, thick lashes, and well–shaped
brows.
It was a face that had charmed plenty of women.
Yet here was Damian–known for his playboy reputation–asleep beside her hospital bed, having cared for her through the night.
How could Scarlett not be suspicious?
A man like him could have anyone he wanted.
But what he’d done for her felt undeniably real.
Scarlett wasn’t heartless. Even if Damian’s kindness was an act or served some hidden motive, his actions were rare.
He could have carried himself with arrogance, yet he’d knelt to put shoes on her feet. He could

have spent the night with someone glamorous, yet he’d held her–sweaty and feverish- without hesitation.
The thought stirred something in her.
She watched his sleeping face, a tangle of emotions swirling inside.
Just then, the phone on the bedside table lit up.
Scarlett’s attention shifted. She picked it up and saw a text from Vincent. “Vanessa needs someone with her today. I have meetings. Can you come?”
She held the phone for a long moment, then set it down without replying.
It was true Vanessa was sick–but did she really want her mother there?

Scarlett left the message unanswered and didn’t dwell on going. She muted the phone and placed it back on the table.
Damian was still sleeping soundly. Scarlett didn’t have the heart to wake him and let him keep holding her hand.
Around eight in the morning, the door opened quietly, and Violet walked in.
Hearing the sound, Damian opened his eyes–they were bloodshot from lack of sleep.
Seeing she’d disturbed him, Violet offered an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry–I should have called first. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
Damian sat up.
There was no annoyance in his expression, only a tired but genuine smile. “Don’t worry about it, Violet.”
Violet set down an insulated food container on the bedside table, then turned to him. “Thank you for staying with her last night.”
Damian’s grin came easily. “It’s no trouble at all. I’m glad I could be here. And thank you for trusting me with her.”
Violet glanced from Damian to Scarlett.
Even as an outsider, she could read the dynamic–Damian’s eyes held Scarlett with unmistakable focus, while Scarlett’s response was harder to decipher.
Seeing how intently Damian watched Scarlett, Violet said gently, “I have a photoshoot today, so I may need to ask you to stay with her a while longer. I’ll come by this evening to relieve you.”
Hearing that, Damian’s smile widened. For him, this wasn’t an inconvenience–it was a gift.

Any chance to be near Scarlett was one he’d gladly take.
“If you’re busy, I can stay with her as long as needed,” he offered warmly.
Violet understood his meaning but didn’t commit. Instead, she said softly, “Nathan and I both want what’s best for her.”
Damian met her gaze steadily. “You don’t have to worry, Violet. I’ll take good care of her.”
Violet didn’t reply directly. She turned toward Scarlett, who lay quietly in bed, her expression thoughtful and complex.
Walking over, Violet gently touched Scarlett’s forehead. Finding no fever, she whispered, “I’ll be back tonight to stay with you, okay?”
Scarlett nodded softly. “Okay.”
