As Scarlett approached the curb where their car was parked, she noticed a Maserati idling across the street.

She knew that car all too well–it belonged to Vincent.

Scarlett paused, her hand halfway toward the door handle of Nolan’s car, and glanced over.

The driver’s side window was down, offering a clear view inside.

Vincent had his back turned to her, while Sabrina sat in the passenger seat, facing Scarlett’s direction.

Sabrina hadn’t noticed her–too absorbed in cupping Vincent’s face and kissing him passionately. Vincent’s hand rested on Sabrina’s waist, and her dress had slipped off one shoulder, revealing smooth, delicate skin that gleamed under the amber glow of the streetlight.

The scene was intense, and it caught Scarlett off guard.

It never crossed her mind that they’d be wrapped up in each other like that in a car, without even bothering to roll up the windows.

She hesitated, then started to reach again for Nolan’s door–when suddenly a hand came from behind and covered her eyes.

Everything went dark, nothing but a blurred shadow in front of her.

Sensing that Nolan was trying to shield her from the messy display, Scarlett felt a faint gratitude. She gently pulled his hand down, turned to him, and managed a smile. “It’s alright. I’m used to it.”

He felt a pang of sympathy but couldn’t find the right words.

Finally, he gave in to the impulse and drew her into his arms.

Nolan’s shoulders were broad and warm, and pressed against him, Scarlett felt her eyes grow hot.

Meanwhile, inside the Maserati, Vincent had just learne where Scarlett was and had been waiting near the intersection. He hadn’t expected Sabrina to show up.

The moment she slid into the passenger seat, she’d begin fumbling with her clothes before throwing her arms around his neck and kissing him wildly,

She met Vincent’s gaze coolly. “Well, what are you doin?”

It dawned on him that she must have seen him with Sarina, misunderstood, and turned to Nolan.

He rushed to explain, “It’s not what it looked like with Sbrina. Come here–I’ll explain everything when we get home.”

He held a hand out toward her.

Scarlett glanced down at his outstretched palm, then gave a soft, humorless laugh. “It’s fine. It doesn’t really matter anyway.”

That smile of hers always unnerved him. “Just come home, alright?” he urged, uneasy.

Scarlett studied him for a long moment before replying, “Alright.”

Vincent’s face began to relax–until she added, “But I’m riding back with Nolan.”

With that, she got into Nolan’s passenger seat.

Nolan slid behind the wheel and glanced over at her, concerned. “You’re sure about going back?”

Scarlett turned to him with a faint smile. “Yeah, I’m sure. It’s only a few more days anyway.”

Nolan understood what she meant. There wasn’t much he could do, so he started the engine and pulled

away,

On the way to Ravenshade Villa, he told her quietly, “If you need anything, call me. I know my reach isn’t limitless, but I’ll do everything I can to keep you safe.”

“I will,” Scarlett replied softly.

Before long, Nolan’s car rolled to a stop at the entrance of Ravenshade Villa.

Almost as soon as they parked, Vincent’s Maserati pulle up behind them.

Vincent moved to get out and open Scarlett’s door, but Sabrina reached over from the passenger seat and caught his arm, her voice pleading. “Vincent, please–dn’t go over there.”
