Sabrina’s pleas were no match for Vincent’s desperate need to explain himself to Scarlett.

Without a moment’s hesitation, he brushed Sabrina’s hand aside and stepped out of the car. As he walked away, hot tears began to trail down Sabrina’s cheeks.

By the time Vincent reached Nolan’s car, Scarlett was already standing on the driveway. Nolan had come around to open the passenger door for her.

Seeing her, Vincent quickly closed the distance. He reached for her arm, his voice urgent. Scarlett, come here.

Hearing him call her by her first name felt oddly hollow and meaningless now.

She completely ignored his request, turning instead to Nolan with a soft tone. Drive safely, okay? Don’t speed. Text me when you get home.

Nolan felt a knot of worry in his chest, but there was nothing more he could do. He nodded. I will.”

Scarlett offered a faint smile. Goodnight.”

Goodnight,Nolan replied, returning the smile.

Before either could say another word, Vincent moved in He draped his own coat over Scarlett’s shoulders and slid his arm firmly around her, pulling her close against his side.

Vincent flashed Nolan a wide, deliberate smile. Thank you, Mr. Huntley, for taking my wife to dinner and seeing her home.

His words were pure possession, framing Scarlett as his belonging.

Nolan didn’t dignify the remark with a response, treating it as if it were just noise on the wind.

Once Nolan’s taillights had disappeared down the street Vincent took Scarlett’s hand and began leading her toward the entrance of Ravenshade Villa. He was burning to explain the whole situation.

Scarlett allowed herself to be guided, her own pace unhurried and detached.

Only after the two of them had disappeared inside did Sabrina finally emerge from Vincent’s car. She stood shivering in the bitter winter air, her silhouette looking lonely and fragile against the dark night.

Sabrina had always believed she understood Vincent, but in this moment, it hit her that she truly didn’t know him at all. How much of his past kindness toward her had been real? And what was driving his sudden attentiveness to Scarlett now?

The terrifying thought that all her careful planning might be crumbling away sent a sharp pang through her

chest.

Whether she genuinely loved Vincent was almost beside the point. She loved his status, his influence, his commanding presenceand yes, his handsome looks.

Sabrina decided, right then and there, that she could no let all her efforts go to waste,

With that resolve hardening inside her, she pulled out her phone and called Maria.

Maria answered promptly. After hearing Sabrina’s shaken account, she came right over. The two families lived in the same complex, so Maria arrived within minutes.

When she picked Sabrina up, Maria offered her usual seasoned advice. Honey, expecting a man’s heart to belong only to you is the quickest path to misery. What you need to do right now is pull back. To make a man remember you, make him feel guiltynot resentful. The smartest move for you at this second is to disappear.

It wasn’t the first time Maria had spoken words like these, but this time, Sabrina truly listened. I understand,” she said quietly.

She was out of options. For now, following Maria’s guidance was her only play.

Don’t invest so much in a man’s heart,Maria continued, her tone practical. You’re already this worked up and you’re not even married to him yet. Imagine what it’ll be like after the weddingyou’ll drive yourself insane. There will always be women around a man like that. Your job is to accept it with grace. Even if Scarlett vanishes, there’ll be another girl. Did you really think he’d have eyes only for you? Don’t be naive.

Sabrina wiped her tears and managed a thin smile. You’re right, Mom. I get it.

Maria gave her hand a reassuring pat. Just breathe. Even if things with Vincent don’t pan out, look at the landscape. There are plenty of exceptional men out therelike Damian, Nolan, Daniel, Harris

Turning the names over in her mind, Sabrina felt a slight easing of the tension in her chest. You’re absolutely right, she said, her voice steadier. Vincent isn’t the only man in the world.”

Even as she said it, and even though Sabrina thrived on male attention, the uncomfortable truth remained: Vincent was the prize she wanted most. How could those other men possibly compare to his standing, his power?

Meanwhile, back inside Ravenshade Villa, Vincent had led Scarlett straight into the foyer. In the living room, they found Vanessa drawing on a small easel board.

Hearing the front door, Vanessa spun around. Without hinking, she called out, Sabrina?

It was very late, but Vanessa hadn’t gone up to bed. Eve since Sabrina had snapped at her earlier, a cloud of hurt had hung over her.

She’d been trying to convince herself that Sabrina was ust stressed and had momentarily lost her temper— that she hadn’t meant to really yell.

But the person walking in wasn’t Sabrina.

Seeing it was Scarlett and her father, Vanessa’s face fell lightly, Daddy,” she said, her tone flat.

Vincent gave a curt Hmmin acknowledgement and then, his grip still firm on Scarlett’s hand, continued leading her up the stairs..
