Chapter 491 A Ride Home
Could it be that Vincent had changed his mind–that he didn’t want to marry Sabrina anymore?
The thought unsettled him. He pressed down on the gas.

Scarlett sat in the back, watching the city lights blur past the window. Vincent’s words looped in her head, pulling her in different directions.
Soon, the car pulled up in front of Ravenshade Villa.
Scarlett looked up and saw Vincent already standing at the entrance. He was holding one of his jackets.
It looked like he’d brought it out specifically for her.
The thought struck her as almost absurd.
Before she could open the door, Vincent stepped forward and opened it for her.
He helped her out of the car and draped the jacket over her shoulders.
It was late, and the December air had turned biting. They needed a coat if they were outside for more than a minute.
Scarlett didn’t refuse the jacket. She pulled it on and started toward the house.
But then Caleb stepped out from the driver’s side.
He walked up to Vincent and offered him a cigarette. “Vincent. Looks like you care a lot about Ms. Theron.”
It was a test, plain as day.
Vincent didn’t answer the question. He just said, “Caleb. Thanks for bringing her back.”
He took the cigarette.
Caleb smiled tightly. “No problem. Least I could do.”
Vincent looked at him, gave a brief nod, and then reached for Scarlett’s bag.
She didn’t react fast enough. It was already in his hand.
Vincent glanced down at her, almost smiling. “Come on. Lily made you pasta.”

Scarlett let him take the bag. She didn’t try to take it back. She just nodded. “Okay.”
So the two of them walked side by side toward the house.
Caleb stood by his car door, watching them walk in together. His confusion only deepened.
Right before they stepped through the gate, Vincent turned and looked back at Caleb, still standing by the curb. “Caleb. I’m taking Scarlett inside. I’ll get you a drink another time.”
Caleb had a hundred questions, but he smiled and nodded. “Sure. Catch you later.”
Vincent rested his hand on Scarlett’s waist as they walked through the gate together.
Caleb stared after them.
The moment they passed through the gate, Scarlett casually pushed Vincent’s hand away.
Vincent didn’t seem bothered. He just gave a faint smile.
He followed her through the front door. Lily had just set the pasta down on the table.
Seeing the steam pasta from the plate, Vincent’s gaze softened. “You must be hungry. Go eat.”
Scarlett didn’t respond, but she walked over to the table.
She mixed the pasta with her fork, then looked up at Lily. “Lily, where’s Vanessa?”
Lily wiped her hands on her apron. “She went upstairs, Mrs. Stewart.”
Scarlett hummed in acknowledgment and said nothing else.
When Scarlett was almost done with her pasta, Vincent came over. “I talked to Sabrina today. She said she doesn’t have time to go to Vanessa’s Christmas thing.”
Scarlett paused briefly at that.
Something she had once desperately wanted to be part of–now she couldn’t even muster interest.
If she went with Vanessa, Vanessa would probably resent her for it.
So she didn’t agree. She just said flatly, “Oh.”
Seeing her so indifferent, Vincent pressed. “What about you? Are you going to go?”
Scarlett pulled out a napkin and slowly wiped her mouth. She looked up at him. “No. I’m going

back to the Therons‘ the day before Christmas Eve. I need to get things ready for Christmas dinner.”
This Christmas, Scarlett wanted her family–the Therons–to have a proper holiday together.
So she planned to cook herself. A full table. All of them eating together.
When Vincent heard this, his brow creased. There was irritation in his eyes now. His voice came out low. “So you’re not going to Stewart Manor, and you’re not going to Vanessa’s kindergarten performance?”
At his question, Scarlett’s body gave the slightest tremor.
Then she met his gaze directly. “That’s the plan right now.”
Hearing her confirm it, Vincent’s temper flared. His voice sharpened. “Think carefully about that. If you don’t go to Stewart Manor, I’ll take Vanessa to the Therons“”
At that, Scarlett’s composure cracked. “Vincent. You’re despicable.”
If he brought Vanessa to Theron Manor, her family wouldn’t get a moment’s
peace.
She’d been through it before. Scarlett didn’t want Vincent or Vanessa anywhere near her family.
