Seeing Scarlett angry, Vincent raised an eyebrow, almost amused. “Yeah. I am. That’s just how I
His eyes narrowed, pinning her in place. Unrelenting. Overpowering.
Scarlett felt her chest tighten. Her hand moved instinctively to her collarbone.
She looked up at Vincent. His face left no room for negotiation.
So she turned away. She wouldn’t look at him. She wouldn’t beg.
Vincent didn’t push. He turned silently and walked upstairs.
Just moments ago, at the gate, he had been almost tender. Now, his face had shifted again.
Scarlett wasn’t going to let herself hope anymore.
Men like him–cold, unpredictable, hollow…
After Vincent disappeared upstairs, Scarlett sat alone in the dining room for a long time.
She didn’t know how long. Only that her body had gone stiff before she finally thought to go upstairs.
If she couldn’t change it, she might as well accept it.
Thinking about it more wouldn’t help.
Scarlett stood up, stretched, and headed upstairs.
When she passed Vanessa’s room, she noticed the door was slightly ajar.
She had opened this door countless times before.
Back then, she never hesitated,
But now, she had too much to lose.
She was afraid Vanessa wouldn’t want her to come in. Afraid Vanessa would cry the moment she saw her. Afraid her own daughter would curse her…
So Scarlett swallowed the urge to enter.
She bit her lip and walked toward the guest room.

But she had only taken a few steps when Vanessa’s whiny voice drifted through the crack in the door. “Daddy, I miss Sabrina. Can we go see her?”
Vincent seemed to pause. Then he said, “Go to sleep.”
Scarlett couldn’t read his tone. But that pause–that brief hesitation–was enough to tell her he’d had to steel himself to say those two words.
Then Vanessa’s voice came again, thick with tears. “It’s all because of Mommy. She’s here, so Sabrina won’t come.”
Vincent looked at her coldly. His voice was flat. “So? What do you want to do about it?”
Vanessa’s reply came fast and sharp. “Daddy, kick her out. Make her go back to Grandma’s house. Back to that house where everyone hates her and it smells bad.”
Hearing her daughter speak about her family with such disgust–it tore Scarlett apart.
She couldn’t listen anymore. She turned and walked into her room.

The moment Scarlett’s door clicked shut, Vincent’s scolding voice cut through from the other side. “Vanessa. Who taught you to talk like that?”
His voice was harsh. Vanessa burst into tears, rubbing her eyes. “Daddy, don’t you love me anymore? Don’t you want me?”
She looked up at him with wet eyes, her face full of grievance.
Vincent stared at her, furious. “If you keep talking like that, you’ll be the one who has to leave.”
Vanessa had been scolded again, but this time she didn’t dare cry out loud. She bit her lip, whimpering softly.
Even with her pitiful expression, Vincent felt no sympathy for her.
He got off the bed and stood looking down at her. “Think about what you said wrong.”
”
Then he walked out of Vanessa’s room without looking back.
Seeing him actually leave, Vanessa’s anger flared. She clenched her small fists and pounded the mattress in frustration, “Hmph! Scarlett, it’s all your fault! Now Sabrina won’t come back, and Daddy doesn’t want me either.”
She kicked her legs against the bed, restless.
Still not satisfied, she grabbed her tablet.

She opened the browser and pressed the voice search button. “How can I make Mommy die?”
The search results flooded the screen with links.
Vanessa tapped on them one by one, but she couldn’t read, so she didn’t know what they said.
If there was a video, she watched it.
She scrolled for a long time but couldn’t find anything useful.
So she sat there, her little head turning–how could she make Scarlett disappear from the Stewart family?
But Vanessa’s mind couldn’t come up with an answer.
Vincent walked out of Vanessa’s room and saw the light on in the guest room.
He knew Scarlett was back upstairs.
He hesitated. Then he knocked.
Even though they had just argued downstairs, he wanted to knock, so he did.
Scarlett opened the door, glanced up at him, and stepped aside. “Come in.”
Vincent walked in. He let his gaze drift around the room. It was neat and minimal–clean lines, nothing excessive.
