Chapter 520 A Surgeon’s Gratitude
Violet lowered her voice. “Just don’t miss out on the right person.”
Scarlett nodded. “Okay. I understand.”
Violet patted her arm. “We’re keeping what happened today from your brother.”
Scarlett agreed. “Yes. I know.”

With Nathan’s temperament, if he ever found out how Caleb had treated the three of them, he’d
go after him with everything he had.
The humiliation itself was one thing. But if Nathan got hurt in the process-if something irreversible happened-it wouldn’t be worth it.
Nebula City.
Nolan spent eight hours in surgery on Jacob Monroe.
When he finally stepped off the operating table, the sky outside was pitch black.
He’d been standing all day. He was drained, barely able to walk straight.
He stripped off his scrubs, washed his hands, and walked out of the OR. Sabrina rushed up to him immediately.
“Nolan. How is he?”
Nolan looked at her. His voice was so hoarse it barely came out. “The surgery was successful. If his vitals remain stable through the night, he can be moved to a regular room.”
Sabrina exhaled, her voice thick. “Thank you, Nolan. Thank you so much.”
Nolan curved his lips into a faint smile and said nothing more.
Seeing him about to leave, Sabrina called out. “Nolan-let’s have dinner together.”
He turned back. “No need. I need to get back to Rivergate.”
Sabrina faltered. “Nolan. Do you think less of me?”
His voice was cool. “No. I don’t judge people’s choices lightly. But I think you have a conscience. Right and wrong-I believe you already know the answers.”

Sabrina opened her mouth to respond, but before she could, Vincent’s voice cut in from the corner. “If you don’t judge people lightly, then the rest of what you said seems more than a little pointed, doesn’t it?”
Nolan followed the voice. Vincent.
Vincent walked over and positioned himself naturally beside Sabrina.
Just then, his phone rang.
He didn’t want to answer. But he saw the name-Scarlett. He picked up. “What is it?”
Scarlett didn’t ask about him at all. She got straight to the point. “The day after tomorrow is when the separation period ends. Eight in the morning. I’ll meet you at the courthouse.”
Vincent deliberately stepped away with the phone.
Neither Nolan nor Sabrina could hear what Scarlett was saying..
But both of them saw her name on the screen.
Vincent stood with his back to them. They couldn’t see his face.
He held the phone. Hesitated. “Okay. I understand. I’ll be back in time.”
Hearing his unequivocal agreement, Scarlett finally relaxed. “Good.”
She hung up without a second’s pause.
Vincent stood there, dazed.
After the day after tomorrow, he would no longer have a wife. Vanessa would no longer have a mother.
When he turned back, his expression was noticeably less composed than before.
Nolan noticed the shift in him and guessed it had something to do with the approaching end of the separation period.
At that thought, Nolan’s mood inexplicably lifted. The corner of his mouth curled into a faint, involuntary smile.
He had been about to say something cutting to Vincent. But remembering that Vincent and Scarlett were about to be divorced, he decided it was better not to provoke him.
So the sharp retort on the tip of his tongue turned into, “Yes. It was rather pointed.”

Vincent blinked, taken aback. He stared at Nolan in disbelief, but Nolan had already shifted his gaze to Sabrina.
He said to her, “I don’t need dinner. I’m leaving now.”
Sabrina instinctively reached out and grabbed his arm. “Nolan. Please stay and eat with us. Let me thank you properly.”
Nolan pulled his arm free. His voice was flat. “Saving lives is my job. If you really want to thank someone, thank Scarlett.”
The last words-thank Scarlett-landed like a blow. Sabrina froze, speechless.
Without another word, Nolan turned and walked away.
After he left, Vincent moved closer to Sabrina. His voice was gentle. “Let’s go check on your father.”
Sabrina was still dazed. “But Nolan…”
Vincent said, “He’s a doctor. It’s what he does. Don’t overthink it. You thanked him.”
Sabrina paused. Then, finally, she said nothing.
They went to the ICU. The doctors confirmed Jacob’s post-op vitals were stable.
Sabrina felt relieved. And yet, inexplicably, her mood remained heavy.
