Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 522

Chapter 522 A Child’s Fear

Vanessa said, “Daddy, just answer me first.”

Vincent thought for a moment. “Yeah.”

If he didn’t divorce Scarlett, he might have considered another child.

But if they divorced, he didn’t want Vanessa growing up with a half-sibling.

Vanessa heard his answer and pressed further. “What about Sabrina? Is she not going to have Daddy’s baby?”

Vincent said, “She’s afraid of childbirth. So no.”

Vanessa responded without much enthusiasm. “Oh.”

Vincent turned on his side and looked at her small face. “What’s wrong? You upset?”

Vanessa buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled. “No. I was just asking.”

She had heard Maria say that Sabrina would have two more children with Daddy one day. That she would be the odd one out. That no one would love her anymore.

That was why she asked.

Earlier, in the bathroom, she had seen the bruises on her body after her bath. The tears wouldn’t stop.

At that moment, she suddenly missed Scarlett.

If only Mommy were here.

After Scarlett called Vincent and heard him agree without hesitation to be there on time, something in her chest loosened.

She couldn’t sleep in the hospital room, so she decided to step out for some air.

But as soon as she reached the entrance of the emergency lobby, she nearly walked straight into him.

Luke.

Seeing him, Scarlett’s face drained of color. “How did you—”

Before she could finish. Luke cut her off, his voice dripping with arrogance. “How did I what? How did I get out? Don’t forget. I’m a Stewart. No matter what happens, my brother is always there to clean up my mess.”

Scarlett stood frozen. her face pale. “But you deliberately injured someone. The evidence is solid. There’s no way you could just—”

Luke sneered. “No way? And yet here I am, standing right in front of you. What’s the matter? Disappointed to see me out?”

Scarlett’s voice dropped. sharp and low. “Luke. You’re insane.”

Luke laughed loudly, then said, mockingly, “I stabbed Damian, and you know every detail. You’re telling me there’s nothing going on between you two? You’re not cheating on my brother:”

Scarlett stepped back, fury rising in her chest. “You’re twisting everything.”

Luke’s face was full of contempt. “Guilty conscience, huh?”

She couldn’t stay there. She turned and walked away without looking back.

When she returned to the hospital room, Violet happened to be awake.

Seeing Scarlett come back pale and shaken, Violet asked, worried, “What happened?”

Scarlett told her about Luke.

Violet listened, then said quietly, “Scarlett. Didn’t you expect this? Damian probably saw this coming too.”

Scarlett said nothing.

She had known from the start that Luke wouldn’t be sent away so easily.

But she had still held onto a small hope.

Violet reached over and gently patted her hand. “Don’t dwell on it. Focus on how we’re going to keep this from your brother. He called earlier. I told him we were on a little vacation.”

Scarlett asked, “Did he buy it?”

Violet said, “Half and half. But we’ll deal with that later. For now, we just keep it from him as long as we can.”

After a quiet night, Scarlett went to work the next day. In the evening, she returned to the

She had dinner with Violet and Clara, then they took a short walk nearby.

Another night passed. The next morning, Scarlett drove back to Ravenshade Villa.

Today was the day the separation period ended. She wanted to mark the end of this marriage with some sense of ceremony.

So she planned to go home, shower, change clothes, freshen up, and then head to the courthouse.

When she arrived at Ravenshade Villa, only Lily was there.

It took Scarlett half an hour to get ready.

She kept it simple. Clean. Minimal. A long coat.

Then she drove to the courthouse.

It wasn’t even eight o’clock when she arrived. She stood at the entrance, scanning the cars on the street.

When the staff began arriving for work, she walked into the lobby, asked for directions, took a number, and sat down to wait.

Vincent didn’t show.

After almost half an hour, she called him.

The call was about to go to voicemail when he finally picked up.

Scarlett kept her voice steady. “Vincent. Where are you?”

His voice was hoarse. “Sorry. I can’t make it today. Sabrina’s been running on empty for days. She collapsed this morning. She’s still unconscious.”
