Sabrina didn’t truly absorb what Vanessa was saying. Instead, she directed her apology toward Vincent. “Vincent, I’m so sorry. I failed to protect Vanessa properly.”
When Vincent’s gaze shifted to Sabrina, the icy edge in his eyes softened considerably. He offered her a gentle smile. “It’s alright. You’ve never been a mother before, and you’re already doing wonderfully. What happened today wasn’t your fault.”
Vanessa, still nestled in Sabrina’s embrace, lifted her head and added her own defense, “Yeah, Sabrina has been amazing! It’s those other people who don’t know any better. And it’s Mom’s fault too. If she had come to the event with me, people wouldn’t have talked about me like that.”
Even though Vanessa feared that Scarlett’s love for her was fading, she couldn’t shake the bitter jealousy she felt seeing Scarlett win an award with Clara.
Her mom was clearly available, yet she hadn’t chosen to accompany her.
That fact alone fueled Vanessa’s resentment.
Seeing both Vincent and Vanessa defending her so staunchly, Sabrina finally allowed herself to relax. She held Vanessa a little tighter and murmured softly, “Vanessa, I promise I’ll learn how to take better care of you. Next time, I’ll do a much better job.”
Just then, Vincent interjected, “You’ve already done more than enough. I’ll arrange for someone else to look after Vanessa.”
Sabrina, having no children of her own, wasn’t particularly keen on being a full-time caretaker. Since Vincent suggested it, she simply acquiesced, “Alright then.”
Internally, she felt a wave of relief, though she made sure her expression conveyed only disappointment.
Vanessa, however, was having none of it. She pouted and protested to Vincent, “Dad, I don’t want anyone else! I only want Sabrina. I can only sleep well when Sabrina is with me.”
Vincent’s expression cooled. “Sabrina has her own life and responsibilities. I’ll ask your grandma to come and take care of you.”
Vanessa’s small face scrunched up in displeasure. “I don want Grandma! She doesn’t really like me.”
Vanessa had never felt much affection for her grandmother.
Vincent wasn’t inclined to negotiate and was about to in ist when Sabrina suddenly spoke up, “Vincent, please, let me continue taking care of Vanessa. I can manage it.”
Vanessa immediately threw her arms around Sabrina. “Sabrina, you’re the best! With you here, I don’t even need Mom anymore. Hmph!”
Sabrina stroked Vanessa’s hair, her gaze filled with apparent warmth.
Vincent turned to observe them, a flicker of unease crossing his features. “This might be asking too much of you.”
Sabrina offered a bright, reassuring smile. “It’s really no rouble. Vanessa is such a wonderful child; I can’t bear the thought of her being upset or alone.”

Seeing her determination, Vincent reluctantly conceded “Alright.”
As he glanced down, Vincent finally noticed Sabrina’s injured finger, which was still bleeding.

He had been so preoccupied with Vanessa earlier that he hadn’t realized Sabrina hadn’t even properly bandaged her hand.
The sight startled him. He leaned forward, gently taking her hand to examine it. “Why haven’t you had this treated yet?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.
Sabrina’s eyes reddened slightly as she shook her head. was so busy looking for Vanessa, I didn’t have time.”
This wasn’t entirely true-she had briefly visited the nurse’s office but decided against treatment.
Letting Vincent see the injury now served her purpose better.
Vincent grew visibly alarmed. “I’m taking you to the hospital right now,” he stated firmly.
After Sabrina’s wound was treated at the hospital, Vincent brought them both back to Ravenshade Villa.
Lily, seeing them return, hurried out to greet them. “Mr Stewart, Ms. Monroe, Ms. Stewart.”
Vincent instructed Lily, “Prepare plain oatmeal for dinner tonight. Sabrina has injured her finger, so the food should be light, nothing too spicy or stimulating.”
Lily smiled and nodded. “Of course.”
Once everyone was inside, Lily inquired, “Shall I prepare a separate dinner for you, Mr. Stewart?” She recalled that Vincent wasn’t particularly fond of oatmeal
Vincent thought for a moment. “That won’t be necessary. I’ll have the oatmeal as well.”
Lily understood instantly-he intended to share the meal with Sabrina.
Upstairs, Vincent suggested Sabrina rest in the guest room.
He then took Vanessa to the master bedroom and closed the door behind them.
Vanessa sat on the plush couch, puzzled by Vincent’s serous demeanor.
“Dad, what is it?” she asked.
Vincent sat down facing her, taking her small hands in his. “Vanessa, I want to ask you a question,” he began, his tone earnest.
Vanessa nodded, her expression attentive. “Okay.”
“Between your Mom and Sabrina,” Vincent asked, watching her face closely for any nuance in her reaction, “who do you like more?”
Vanessa thought hard for a moment, her brow furrowed in concentration. Finally, she looked up at Vincent and answered, “I like both Mom and Sabrina.”
Vincent’s brow furrowed slightly. “But if you absolutely ad to choose just one?”
