Scarlett frowned slightly. "What are you trying to say?"

After a quiet moment, Harris let out a helpless sigh. "Vincent's had to handle more than most since he was young. His family, his career—pretty much everything was mapped out by his parents and grandfather. He grew up without much affection, so he turned out kind of distant. Never really learned how to treat a woman right. But I believe the fact that he married you and you two have Vanessa... it means he does care about you."

Scarlett felt nothing hearing this.

If it were a few years ago, those words might've sent her heart racing, full of hope and daydreams.

Now, she didn't buy any of it.

"Oh really?" she asked, a faint trace of amusement in her voice.

Harris knew she wouldn't believe him, but he pressed on anyway. "Yeah. Maybe he just doesn't recognize his own feelings yet."

Scarlett found that even more absurd. "Mr. Whitmore, you've been his closest friend for years. You saw how he was with Sabrina, didn't you? You say he doesn't understand emotions, doesn't know how to treat a woman well—so what was all that with Sabrina? How did he act around her?"

Harris went quiet for a few seconds.

"I know," he finally said. "But still..."

Scarlett cut him off. "So tell me, Mr. Whitmore—what do you think I should do?"

Harris lowered his gaze. "I'll talk to him for you."

Scarlett's voice trembled slightly, on the verge of breaking. "Talk to him about what? Ask him to be nicer to me? Tell him to stay away from Sabrina?"

"No," Harris replied quietly. "I'll convince him to give you the divorce."

Scarlett froze. She stared at Harris, her whole body going rigid. Then she slowly turned her face away, eyes reddening, and murmured, "Thank you."

Harris didn't say another word.

Not long after, Claire walked out of the ER.

Seeing her, Harris quickly stepped forward to help. "Claire, are you feeling better?"

Claire quietly pulled her arm back. She moved past him, leaned against the wall beside Scarlett, then looked up at Harris. "Thanks for bringing me to the hospital. How much was the ride? I'll Venmo you ten times the amount."
