Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 653

She didn't want him to skip out on work just to drive her home, either.

When the car came to a stop at a red light, Damian glanced over—she hadn't said a word. He turned to her and asked carefully, "Want to come along with me?"

Seeing he was still checking how she felt, Scarlett gave a nod. "Sure, that works."

A smile returned to Damian's face when she agreed without hesitation.

She really did hold him in her thoughts now.

Before long, the car entered the parking garage beneath Damian's company building.

Scarlett stepped out and looked up at the sleek highrise ahead—imposing, modern, right in the heart of downtown.

Real estate in this part of the city was worth a fortune on its own, and with a successful firm on top of it, Damian's wealth easily matched Vincent's.

Leaning on her crutches, Scarlett declined when Damian moved to carry her. "Damian, this is your workplace... let's not make a scene."

It took him a second to catch her meaning, but then he stayed quiet and went along with her wish.

Even so, as the two walked together across the polished lobby, plenty of eyes found them.

Quite a few employees greeted Damian with a respectful, "Good afternoon, Mr. Langley."

By the time they reached the elevator bank, at least a dozen people had said hello.

Then one bolder colleague glanced at Scarlett and asked curiously, "Mr. Langley, is this your wife?"

Damian almost remarked on the employee's sharp eye, but he held back the words just in time.

After a brief pause, he replied, "She's a friend."

That should keep rumors from spreading.

It wasn't that he didn't want to acknowledge what Scarlett meant to him—but she wasn't yet divorced from Vincent. The office was full of watchful eyes, and he didn't want to stir up unnecessary trouble for her.

Scarlett wasn't surprised by his answer. She understood exactly why he'd said it.

The employee who'd asked seemed to sense Damian wasn't telling the whole story, but he didn't push it. Instead, he smiled and added, "Well, your friend is really lovely. I was wondering if maybe—"

Damian cut him off. "Is your work finished for the day?"

Hearing the edge in his boss' tone, the employee quickly straightened up. "Right—I'll get back to it now, Mr. Langley."

With that, he hurried away.
