Awakened Housewife Ignore Betrayer's Begs (Scarlett) novel Chapter 661

She didn't even have a moment to change clothes. Without hesitation, she went straight next door and knocked on Nathan and Violet's bedroom door.

As soon as they heard Vanessa was ill, Nathan and Violet didn't think twice. They grabbed Scarlett and rushed straight to the hospital.

When they arrived, Lily was pacing back and forth in the emergency room hallway, holding a feverish Vanessa, her own hair disheveled. Despite Lily's efforts to soothe her, Vanessa kept sobbing weakly in her arms.

The moment Lily spotted Scarlett and the others walking in, her face softened with visible relief. "Thank goodness you're here, Mrs. Stewart," she said quietly.

Scarlett moved closer slowly, leaning on her cane. Her expression was cool and unsmiling as she asked Lily, "Is her fever still up?"

Lily gave a tired nod. "Yes, it hasn't broken yet."

From the crook of Lily's arm, Vanessa whimpered, "Mommy... I want Mommy."

The words tugged sharply at Scarlett's heart.

She almost answered—but held back, unsure whether Vanessa meant her or Sabrina, not wanting to assume.

Gently, Lily looked down and whispered, "Vanessa, sweetie, look who came to see you."

Vanessa lifted her head slowly. When her teary, red-rimmed eyes met Scarlett's, fresh tears spilled over, but no sound came out now.

For a second, it seemed like Vanessa wanted to reach out for Scarlett—but pride held her back. She couldn't bring herself to act so needy.

Then she turned and noticed Nathan and Violet nearby. In a small, scratchy voice, she managed, "Uncle..."

Nathan stood slightly turned away, his gaze avoiding Vanessa. Even when he heard her call him, he didn't respond.

He'd waited years to hear that word from her, but now it left him cold.

Weak and muddled from fever, Vanessa didn't care whether she usually liked or disliked the person in front of her. She never called him "Uncle" normally—but tonight, for the first time, she did.

Yet that single word didn't soften Nathan. He didn't even turn around.

Scarlett watched the little girl lying limply against Lily's shoulder, and her chest ached. She longed to take Vanessa into her own arms, but held back, afraid the child might pull away.

Since Vanessa had called for her uncle, maybe it was Nathan she wanted after all.

Reluctantly, Scarlett turned toward her brother. Seeing his stern, expressionless face, she lowered her voice almost to a plea. "Nathan..."

He knew that tone too well. Not wanting to upset his sister, he finally relented after a brief pause.
