After an hour-long flight, Sam arrived at Portelisse Airport.
Brett followed closely behind him and said respectfully, "Mr. Goodwin, the driver's already waiting outside. The hotel's been booked as well."
Sam acknowledged him with a low hum and strode toward the exit. Once he got in the car, he finally asked, "How's the investigation going?"
"There's no update yet, but it should come soon. There were only four car accidents in Portelisse last night," Brett reported.
Sam nodded but didn't speak again. He leaned back, closing his eyes to rest.
…
Not long after, they reached the hotel. Right then, Brett received the findings from his team and went straight to Sam.
"Mr. Goodwin, the results are in. Of the four accidents, three involved ordinary civilians. Only one case involved someone with some status.
"They said a young woman got into an argument with her bodyguard and grabbed the steering wheel. That was what caused the crash."
The moment Sam heard that, he knew he had found Madison. His gaze darkened. "Which hospital is the patient from the fourth accident in?"
"Portelisse City Hospital."
"We're heading there," Sam ordered.
The driver obeyed instantly, turning the car around and heading straight toward the hospital.
…
In less than 20 minutes, they pulled up at the entrance of Portelisse City Hospital.
The moment Sam stepped out, he drew the attention of everyone passing by. It wasn't just his looks but also the imposing sight of the entourage behind him.
Knowing that William had assigned a team of bodyguards to watch Madison, Sam got some men of his own.
A wall of tall, broad-shouldered men in black suits followed him. Anyone seeing them would think they were here to cause trouble, not visit a patient.
The hospital director rushed over after getting word from security, but Sam and his people were already gone, heading straight for the inpatient wing. His team had already located Madison's ward.
Moments later, the group swept onto Madison's floor, catching the attention of the bodyguard stationed outside her ward. He didn't know who they were after, but he could tell they weren't to be messed with and became alert on instinct.
Sam stopped right in front of him and looked down. "Viseria Security?"
Sam froze where he stood, letting her hold him. The panic, frustration, and emptiness he had been drowning in these past few days vanished in an instant.
Madison didn't know how long she had cried. With the concussion's lingering effects, she collapsed against him.
Sam reacted instantly, catching her before she could fall to the ground. He lifted her and laid her on the bed, then shouted urgently toward the door, "Brett, get the doctor!"
The doctor arrived quickly. After an examination, he frowned and said, "She's fine. Her emotions were too intense, and with her post-concussion symptoms, she fainted. She'll wake up soon."
Sam let out a breath of relief, then asked with concern, "What about her other injuries?"
"Everything else is minor. Only the torn skin on her heel will leave a scar," the doctor replied honestly.
He still didn't know who Sam was, but the intimidating entourage made it clear he wasn't someone to antagonize.
Sam nodded and had Brett send the doctor away.
Once the room was cleared, only he and Madison remained. He stood there quietly, watching her. After a moment, he pulled up a chair and sat beside the bed. He brushed a strand of hair away from her cheek.
Golden sunlight streamed in through the window, washing over them both, the scene soft and intimate.
