When they left the restaurant, Kaitlyn's expression was dark as thunder. She glared at the graceful Madison walking ahead.
Thanks to Madison, she earned tens of thousands of dollars every month at Quinn Group. But to maintain her image as a wealthy socialite, she spent without restraint.
That 100-thousand-dollar bill had maxed out several of her credit cards.
Thinking back to the looks of ridicule from the diners earlier, Kaitlyn wanted nothing more than to kill Madison right there on the spot.
Once she got control of Quinn Group, she swore she'd make Madison live like a dog.
Meanwhile, Madison was texting Sam, updating him on her plans. "Sam, I've finished dinner. Going shopping in a bit."
"Okay," he replied.
That single, curt reply made her chest tighten. After a pause, she texted in her usual tone.
Madison: "Have you eaten yet?"
Sam: "Not yet."
Madison: "You've got stomach problems, remember? You need to eat on time. Take care of yourself. How else can you keep me company? I already ordered takeout. It should arrive at Goodwin Corp in about ten minutes."
After sending the message, Madison stared at the screen, every passing second dragging like an hour. A minute later, another message came through.
"Got it," Sam replied.
It was still as brief as ever.
Madison's hands trembled anxiously as she read the two cold, detached words. She knew she had no one to blame but herself. After all, she was the one who'd trampled Sam's heart over and over again for Johnny.
No wonder he didn't trust her anymore.
Then, suddenly, a new notification popped up. Sam had transferred 10 million dollars to her account.
Soon after, he sent a message, saying, "Be careful while shopping. If it's not enough, tell me."
Tears welled in Madison's eyes before she even realized it. He'd always been like this. No matter how much she hurt him, Sam never once hesitated to stand by her side.
"Were you texting Johnny just now?" she asked with a smile, trying to appear casual.
Madison's brows lifted slightly. She didn't miss the flash of jealousy in Kaitlyn's eyes.
She couldn't help wondering how she could have been so blind before. Kaitlyn's act wasn't even convincing.
"Don't mention Johnny to me," Madison said sharply. "I don't want to hear his name again."
Kaitlyn felt her heart drop at Madison's reaction.
Could Madison really be planning to break up with Johnny after what happened two days ago?
No, she couldn't let that happen. If Madison and Johnny split, how would they ever openly get their hands on Madison's inheritance?
"Maddie, are you still upset about what happened the other day? I'm sure it was all a misunderstanding. Johnny loves you so much. He'd never—"
"Kaitlyn, Johnny's your boyfriend, isn't he?" Madison cut her off with a sneer, her tone laced with certainty.
