Listening to Madison's apology made Janet freeze in shock. The next second, she was secretly pleased.
However, the memories of all the hurt she had suffered over the years quickly doused it. She wasn't about to forgive Madison so easily.
Jerking her sleeve free, Janet huffed, "Oh, now you're sorry? It's too late!"
"Jan…" Madison stared at Janet pleadingly.
Janet didn't turn back around, though she could still see Madison through her peripheral vision. When she noticed Madison's misty eyes that looked like they would spill tears at any second, she sighed inwardly and gave in.
"Whether or not you get my forgiveness will depend on your actions. If you disappoint me, you can forget about ever being forgiven!"
"I'll do my best! I promise!" Madison immediately raised her hand as if taking an oath.
Janet shot her a sideways glance and snorted. As if suddenly remembering something, she muttered awkwardly, "I didn't change my number."
It was obvious why she had said that. She was practically telling Madison not to expect her to be the first to reach out, and that Madison should be more proactive.
The moment Madison realized what she meant, her smile became even more dazzling and captivating. Janet couldn't help but stare at her face.
Others nearby who had noticed the exchange were once again struck speechless by Madison's breathtaking beauty.
Kaitlyn watched from across the table. She clenched the tablecloth under her fingers, her stomach twisting with unease.
When did Madison and Janet even make up? Hadn't they gone years without any contact?
While her mind raced, a waiter came in with the food.
Soon, the room was filled with the sound of clinking plates and easy chatter. As they ate, the conversation turned to everyone's lives in recent years.
Before long, someone sighed in admiration.
"Johnny's still the most impressive among us. He's young, successful, and already a senior executive at Quinn Group. Not only that, he's pulling in over a million a year!"
Johnny raised his chin even higher, basking in their praise.
Janet's face fell as she watched them. Others might not know what kind of person Johnny was, but she sure did.
Turning to Madison, she questioned, "Didn't you just say you can see through others? Then why are you still letting him use you like a fool?"
Madison realized Janet had misunderstood when she saw her stormy expression. "Relax. I don't have a habit of getting taken advantage of."
As her gaze drifted toward Johnny, she curled her lips into a cold smile. She then said mysteriously, "Stay for the night. Tomorrow, I'll make sure you get to watch an interesting show."
Janet raised an eyebrow, looking rather intrigued. "A show?"
"Yes, one that definitely won't disappoint you."
Tomorrow would mark the downfall of Kaitlyn and Johnny's reputation.
