These words seemed like a retreat, but every syllable hinted that someone had harmed her, and that Jarred knew the truth but was covering for them.
Helena's brow furrowed tightly.
She looked at her son, then at Celeste, her lips moving as if to ask something, but she was silenced by a single glare from Eleanor.
Eleanor tapped her cane against the floor again.
"Fine, don't say it then."
She turned her head and glanced toward the corner of the room.
A bodyguard in a black suit immediately stepped forward, walking over to Eleanor and bowing his head.
Eleanor turned slightly, her lips close to his ear, and whispered a few words.
The bodyguard's expression hardened, and he turned, pushed his way through the crowd, and quickly disappeared down the end of the hallway.
In less than ten minutes, the bodyguard returned.
Behind him followed seven or eight doctors and nurses—the entire medical staff who had participated in the rescue mission.
The onlookers in the hallway gasped, instinctively taking a few steps back, their faces filled with shock.
No one expected the Sterling matriarch to be so ruthlessly decisive, bringing all the participants directly to the room.
What was she planning to do?
Sienna's pupils constricted, staring into the hospital room in disbelief.
The bodyguard bowed respectfully to Eleanor. "Ma'am, all the medical staff from the rescue mission that day have been brought here, except for Ms. Sloan, who is currently hospitalized."
Eleanor hummed in acknowledgment.
She rolled her wheelchair forward a couple of steps, stopping in front of the line of medical personnel.
Those aged eyes slowly swept across each person's face, as if scrutinizing and weighing their worth.
Her eyes locked onto her, and Lynn's body visibly trembled.
The air instantly grew thick with tension, and everyone's eyes focused squarely on Lynn.
Eleanor maneuvered her wheelchair right in front of Lynn, a chilling smile creeping onto her lips. "Little girl, what are you panicking for? It seems you know the inside story."
Lynn was trembling from head to toe, shaking her head frantically. "I... I don't... I don't know anything..."
"You don't know?" Eleanor sneered, her eyes falling on the intern name tag pinned to the girl's chest, her contempt growing even more obvious.
"Then you should know who I am, right?"
She rolled her wheelchair another half foot forward, a cold smirk on her lips. "Never mind this hospital—even in the Capital, if I want someone to disappear from the medical field, it only takes one word.
If you know what's good for you, spit out everything you know. Otherwise, don't even think about wearing that white coat ever again in your life."
Lynn's face went as pale as a sheet of paper. She hurriedly bowed, her voice thick with tears. "I'm sorry, Eleanor, I was foolish to offend you, but I really don't know any inside story. Please let me go..."
