The man walking in front quickly swept his freezing gaze across the entire floor.
This level was a highly secure, entirely private ward reserved strictly for high-risk patients with special status. The security was absolute, and all information was completely confidential.
No wonder he couldn't find her earlier.
Jarred followed the room number Declan had provided, making his way down the corridor toward her ward.
He had only taken a few steps before two tall, uniformed SWAT officers blocked his path at the entrance to the hallway.
Both sides paused.
Seeing the man's face clearly, the two officers were taken aback for a second before immediately standing at attention, respectfully greeting him in unison, "Captain Sterling!"
Jarred frowned slightly, his tone carrying a distinct chill. "What are you doing here?"
The two officers exchanged a glance, their expressions slightly awkward.
One of them scratched his head, explaining sheepishly, "Well... Dr. Sloan reported that someone attempted a contract killing on her at Eagle's Point, and her life is currently under threat. She formally requested witness protection from the department, so the two of us were assigned to guard her 24/7."
Jarred's brow instantly tied into a dead knot.
He forced down the chaotic mix of emotions in his chest and asked in a heavy voice, "How is the investigation going? Have you caught the suspect yet?"
"About that..." The officer looked conflicted. "Captain Sterling, the details of the case are strictly classified internal information. We really can't disclose them, I'm sure you understand."
Hearing this, Jarred didn't press the issue.
He assumed that given his status and their history, the officers naturally wouldn't try to stop him from going in.
He gave a slight nod and moved to keep walking.
To his surprise, the two officers stepped forward again, firmly blocking his way. "Captain Sterling!"
Jarred's face completely darkened. "You're even blocking me?"
His face was completely rigid, the freezing aura around him practically turning to solid ice.
This wasn't Sienna requesting witness protection at all. She was simply using it to openly, legally guard against him and hide from him!
He was so angry he wanted to laugh, but he couldn't even manage that.
He had only wanted to see her injuries with his own eyes, to make sure she was okay.
But now, he couldn't even catch a glimpse of her face.
Jarred turned around in profound irritation, looking at Declan behind him, and asked in a heavy tone, "When you guys found Sienna, did she have any other injuries besides her leg? Was it severe?"
The rescue scene that day had been pure chaos, and Celeste was critically injured.
In the rush of the moment, he had completely forgotten to check on her.
He had simply seen that Sienna could still stand and had the energy to argue with him, so he instinctively assumed her injuries weren't that bad.
