Sienna's heart sank.
Of course she remembered. The dossier was incredibly detailed, listing every minor medical issue the suspect had ever had. Heart disease had never been mentioned.
"Officer," Sienna began, her voice shaking. "Did he have a history of heart disease?"
The young officer hesitated, flipping through his notebook. "Well... it wasn't recorded in his file."
"Exactly." Sienna fixed him with a hard stare. "He had no history of heart conditions. There must be a mistake. Please check again."
The young officer looked at her apologetically. "The coroner already confirmed it. There's no mistake.
And we just contacted his family. His grandmother passed away from a heart attack.
It's genetic. Just because he never had an episode before doesn't mean the condition wasn't there."
Sienna's fingers went stiff.
From behind, the sound of a wheelchair rolling across the floor echoed in the room.
She turned around and saw Jarred slowly pushing Celeste out of the adjoining room.
Celeste still wore her frail facade, but her features betrayed the overwhelming relief of a massive burden being lifted.
Jarred wore a dark gray dress shirt, his sleeves rolled up to his forearms.
Whether it was because he was pushing the wheelchair or something else, his pace today was agonizingly slow.
Furthermore, from the moment he walked in, his gaze was firmly locked on Sienna.
But she had been staring entirely at the identification room, completely ignoring him.
Now that she finally turned around, her eyes shot straight past him, boring into the woman in the wheelchair.
Her eyes smoldered with suppressed fury and deep-seated hatred, looking as though she wanted to incinerate Celeste where she sat.
Jarred's brows pinched together in an imperceptible frown.
Before Celeste could respond, the young officer hurried over, looking intensely awkward. "Ms. Sloan, um... well, even though the suspect didn't make a visual identification, the statement he left behind described the mastermind's features.
While in the other room, we conducted an examination on Ms. Carlyle. She doesn't match the description."
"Impossible!" Sienna found it absolutely absurd. She turned to the officer. "What didn't match?"
The young officer opened his notebook and read, "The suspect stated that his contact that night was a young woman in a short skirt. She had a very distinct red mole on the outer side of her left thigh."
Sienna froze.
A red mole?
She looked down at Celeste's leg.
Wrapped in thick bandages and a cast, there was absolutely nothing visible.
Celeste sighed softly. Looking at Sienna's desperate demeanor, she spoke with a helpless, forgiving tone. "Since Ms. Sloan still doesn't believe it, I'll cooperate one more time. The police can perform the check right here."
