Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 131

At this moment, Declan Ward looked at his boss sitting alone under the lamplight, the sprawling villa behind him completely empty.

He had everything, yet it seemed like he had nothing at all.

Despite his unimaginable wealth and the luxurious mansion he lived in, he was utterly miserable.

He looked so incredibly lonely, as if he were the last man on earth—and the one person he wanted had just made an appointment with a divorce lawyer.

Early the next morning.

Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the VIP ward, casting a warm glow over Sienna Sloan.

She had just finished her breakfast when a knock sounded at the door.

"Come in."

The door pushed open to reveal three people. Leading the way was the lead detective previously assigned to her case, followed by two SWAT officers who had been protecting her over the last few days.

The detective pulled up a chair and sat by her bed, while the two officers stood guard at the door.

"Ms. Sloan, I'm here to update you on the case," the detective said, opening a file folder with a look of professional apology.

"The primary suspect died accidentally during our investigation, and the remaining accomplices are still on the run. The case has unfortunately hit a bottleneck."

Sienna nodded without saying a word.

She already knew; Luna Lennox had given her the gist of the results at the police station yesterday.

The detective closed the folder, his gaze sincere. "But I must emphasize that we won't give up. The moment we have a lead, you'll be the first to know. Also..."

He paused. "The witness protection measures you applied for are being temporarily suspended due to the conclusion of this investigative phase. However, these two officers will leave you an emergency contact number. It's available twenty-four seven—just call, and we'll be there."

With that, he quickly handed her the phone number.

Sienna took it, smiling politely as she watched them leave. "I understand. Thank you for your hard work."

After the nurse finished and left, the ward fell back into silence.

Sienna's smile slowly faded.

Celeste Carlyle. In public, she played the innocent, straightforward girl without a manipulative bone in her body, but behind the scenes, she was hiring hitmen and even targeting a severely ill patient like Owen.

There was no way she was just going to let this go.

With that in mind, she dialed Luna's number. "Luna, do you remember the trail for the deposit Celeste used to hire the hitman? I remember the files you gave me mentioned the suspect received an offshore wire transfer as a down payment."

"I think there was an anonymous offshore account involved. It covered a lot of ground, so I didn't record the specifics. I can look into it right now if you need it."

The rapid clicking of a keyboard echoed through the receiver.

Sienna's eyes sharpened as she suddenly remembered something.
