Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 132

Last time Celeste framed Owen by bribing his attending physician, the transfer account used...

Maloney Sterling had explicitly told her it was a highly concealed offshore account specifically used for money laundering.

Could these two accounts be one and the same?

"Luna, I'm going to send you another account number. Can you cross-reference them and see if there's any connection?"

Sienna quickly pulled up the account number Maloney had given her previously and texted it to Luna.

Luna was surprised. "Where did you get this?"

"It's the one Celeste used to bribe Owen's doctor."

Sienna lowered her voice. "Maloney tracked it down and said it was an offshore account used exclusively for laundering money. I suspect... they might be the exact same one."

Luna gasped sharply on the other end of the line.

"If that's true, then this isn't just a simple hit job anymore. A money-laundering account implicates a whole lot of very dangerous things."

"I know," Sienna said, her expression turning glacial. "That's exactly why I need you to check. If these two accounts are connected, we might be able to follow the money right to the top."

"Understood. Leave it to me."

Sienna pursed her lips. "Luna, I appreciate your help, but if this compromises your job..."

"Alright, alright, give it a rest," Luna interrupted. "I'm not a kid, I know where to draw the line. Besides, if I can't handle it, I'll just ask Nolan for help."

"Okay, I'll wait for your message."

Sienna finally felt at ease as she hung up the phone.

She turned her head, glancing at the documents resting on the coffee table, then checked the time.

Eight-thirty. Perfect. Jarred Sterling should be awake by now.

Sienna freshened up, tucked the documents into her bag, and was just about to grab her crutches to head out.

The ward door was suddenly shoved open.

Sienna looked up, freezing entirely in her tracks.

Declan's voice broke the silence in the ward, as perfectly respectful as it had always been.

That title only made Sienna's face grow colder.

Before she could speak, one of the police officers stepped forward with a serious tone. "Excuse me, are you Ms. Sienna Sloan?"

Sienna kept her composure. "I am."

"Here is the situation," the officer stated professionally. "Mr. Sterling filed a report stating that he has been subjected to long-term threats, extortion, and harassment under the pretense of a pregnancy."

"The suspect allegedly forced him to engage in various illegal activities and demands beyond his means, threatening to destroy his reputation, cause disturbances at his workplace and home, and severely endanger his personal safety and daily life if he did not comply."

Sienna was speechless.

Completely dumbfounded.

"We have formally accepted the case," the officer continued. "And we are currently conducting an active investigation of the suspect."

Sienna looked up, her gaze bypassing the officers to lock onto Jarred lounging on the sofa.
