"Your leg is injured."
Jarred's breath was scorching hot. He spoke in a lazy drawl, every word feeling like a deliberate puff of air against her ear. "Whether you fight me hard or soft, you're no match for me."
Sienna's breathing grew even more chaotic.
She tried with all her might to maintain a cold exterior, but her body was reacting far faster than her brain.
Jarred obviously noticed the shift in her.
His smile deepened.
His lips moved from her earlobe, sliding painfully slow across her cheek to the corner of her mouth.
"The most comfortable way to handle this without hurting yourself..."
His lips were virtually brushing against hers, deliberately grazing her skin as he spoke. "...is to just cooperate like a good girl."
Sienna clamped her jaw shut tight.
His hot breath fanned entirely over her lips, carrying the crisp, cool scent of mint. The two contrasting sensations mingled together—a perfect reflection of the man himself.
"Otherwise, if the police have to get involved again," his voice suddenly dropped to a dangerously low gravel, "it won't just be a simple private negotiation anymore."
Sienna stared at him.
Her wrist was still in his grasp, her waist pulled flush against him, and her legs firmly pinned.
Confined completely in his embrace, she was left without a single inch of room to fight back.
She looked into his eyes—the same eyes countless people had praised for their deep, romantic allure.
But within those depths, she saw something she was far too familiar with.
Calculation.
Jarred never did anything without a motive.
He hadn't called the police to solve a problem; he had done it to create one.
Pinning her down here wasn't about confirming any supposed pregnancy.
It was to...
Sienna's brow slowly furrowed.
She locked eyes with him. "Jarred, are you deliberately making up an excuse to string me along just so you don't have to divorce me?"
Even as the words left her mouth, she felt how unlikely it sounded.
That was probably all she amounted to in his eyes.
A five-year contract marriage had likely pushed far beyond the limits of his interest.
Sienna swiftly concealed the flash of pain in her eyes.
Her expression turned entirely to ice as she raised her chin slightly. "Right back at you. Dating you is like catching a criminal record. Even if I tried, I could never find a piece of trash worse than you."
The movement of Jarred's lips over hers violently froze.
In that split second, the air pressure around him plummeted drastically.
His playful gaze turned terrifyingly cold, his breathing suddenly heavy.
The suffocating hostility hit so fast and fierce it felt like it could swallow someone whole.
It happened so fast that Sienna barely even registered it.
The very next moment, he reverted right back to his reckless, playboy demeanor, as if his momentary loss of control had never happened.
His large hand gave a light squeeze at her waist, carrying a force that was equal parts threatening and flirtatious.
"As long as you're not pregnant, you can walk away. I won't stop you. But..."
