Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 149

He was clearly avoiding her!

Sienna knew Jarred far too well. The man possessed a million ways to drive a person completely insane.

She gritted her teeth, zeroing in on one single thought: This divorce is happening today, whether he likes it or not!

A name suddenly flashed through her mind. Declan.

He had been Jarred's shadow for over a decade. If Jarred wasn't at the precinct, Declan absolutely knew where he was hiding.

The moment the call connected, the fury in Sienna's voice was palpable. "Declan, where is Jarred?"

A heavy silence hung over the line for five whole seconds before Declan's trembling voice came through. "M-Madam... The boss is at Sterling Manor."

"The Manor?" Sienna sneered. "Did he conveniently forget our appointment? Did he really think hiding out there meant I couldn't find him? Tell him he's getting this divorce today no matter what. He can run, but he can't hide."

Declan stammered, unable to form a coherent sentence. "That's not it, Madam. The truth is..."

"Have him come down here right now, or I'll go drag him out myself," Sienna said coolly. "But if I have to show up, I can't guarantee I won't cause a scene."

Declan was at a total loss. "...Madam, the boss really can't leave today..."

"Fine. Wait for me."

Sienna hung up, hailed a cab, and sped straight toward Sterling Manor.

The sprawling, isolated estate halfway up the mountain was a place she had only visited a handful of times, and every trip had felt suffocating.

But when she arrived, she noticed the grounds were unusually chaotic.

Several SUVs with government plates were parked right out front—vehicles belonging to Jarred's father and his second brother, Marcus, who rarely visited.

Beyond that, the driveway was packed with luxury cars bearing out-of-state plates. Clearly, the Sterling extended family had gathered.

Sienna frowned.

She had already returned the Sterling Family Crest. Technically, she had severed all ties with this bloodline.

Just as Sienna was about to call Declan again, her phone rang. It was Jarred.

She picked it up immediately, but the voice on the other end didn't belong to him. It was Celeste.

"Hello? Are you ever going to quit? Jarred doesn't have time for you right now, so stop throwing a tantrum!" Celeste's voice was dripping with its usual classless arrogance, every word calculated to provoke.

Sienna had imagined a thousand different ways Jarred might be playing her.

But knowing he was inside with Celeste sent an indescribable wave of pure disgust and fury through her veins.

She ruthlessly suppressed her anger. "Put Jarred on the phone."

"He's genuinely too busy," Celeste giggled, her tone smug. "He's got his hands full. But hey, if you're so capable, why don't you figure out a way to drag him out yourself?"

Before Sienna could reply, the line went dead.

Sienna stared at her blackened screen, ready to commit murder.
