From her wheelchair, Helena helped Eleanor over to the sofa. She swallowed hard, forcing a stiff, utterly sycophantic smile.
"Jarred, what brings you over for a chat with your grandmother?" She pointed a trembling finger at the man kneeling on the floor, probing cautiously, "Who is he?"
Before her words even settled, Jarred took a file folder from Declan and slammed it heavily onto the coffee table with a resounding smack.
Helena flinched violently at the aggressive motion, instinctively raising her arms to shield her face.
Everyone's eyes dropped straight to the document. A few bolded black words practically jumped off the page.
It was a bank transfer record—and the sender was the Sterling Family Trust Fund!
Helena's expression immediately crumpled as she recognized exactly what it meant.
She cautiously peeked over at Eleanor sitting beside her.
Jarred's gaze swept over their spectacularly guilty faces—shock, panic, and sheer terror.
A cold smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. "I had no idea that a mediocre little maid had the authority to freely dip into the Sterling Family Trust Fund."
Eleanor's face instantly darkened, as if all the blood had been drained from her veins.
Helena was so terrified she shrank back behind Eleanor.
They never imagined Jarred would track down the old traditional doctor so quickly—let alone drag the man right into their living room!
That old doctor possessed the original acupuncture formula they had been given.
When the order was placed to alter the ingredients, only she, Eleanor, and the doctor were supposedly in the loop.
She thought they could bury the truth forever. She never expected Jarred to expose them so easily.
Jarred casually tapped his fingertips against the armrest of the sofa. Every single tap felt like a hammer striking directly against their racing hearts.
His glacial eyes swept the room, the corners of his gaze as sharp as a finely honed blade. "I already gave you plenty of face in front of Grandpa. What? Do you need me to spell it out for you?"
Sienna's position in the Sterling family had always been awkward. Eleanor and Helena had never treated her well; their deep-seated hatred for her was practically written on their foreheads.
With Jarred arriving like an absolute executioner demanding answers, he had clearly deduced the full truth behind tonight's disaster.
Celeste furrowed her brows. She honestly didn't even want to criticize them out loud.
Eleanor and Helena's grand scheme was full of painfully obvious loopholes.
With how ruthlessly sharp Jarred was, did they honestly think they could pull the wool over his eyes?
She subtly leaned closer to Eleanor, though her words were directed entirely at Jarred. "Jarred, Grandma is in poor health, and she really can't handle this kind of shock. If there's a misunderstanding, let's talk about it calmly. Don't upset her like this."
Jarred acted as if she hadn't spoken at all. He expressionlessly retracted his gaze, sneering down at the man kneeling by his boots.
"Dr. Shaw. As a so-called angel in white whose duty is to save lives, you deliberately plotted a murder and knowingly broke the law. Do you have any idea what kind of sentence you're looking at?"
