Maloney frowned heavily. He looked at Sienna, then at Celeste, utter disbelief written across his face.
Jarred's expression stiffened for a fraction of a second, a flicker of uncertainty crossing his eyes.
Only Helena maintained her glare of absolute disgust toward Sienna.
Right on cue, Celeste's eyes welled with tears, letting them pool perfectly before speaking.
She looked at Sienna with absolute pity. "Sienna, I know you were out of your mind with worry over Owen, so you made a terrible mistake. I don't blame you, but please stop saying these awful things out of spite."
With that, she turned to the other two. "Jarred, Helena, please don't be mad at her, okay?"
It was a flawless performance.
She didn't deny the accusation, she didn't argue, and she magnanimously offered forgiveness.
In doing so, she manipulated everyone into believing Sienna was just throwing a hysterical tantrum and dodging responsibility.
As expected, the temperature in Jarred's eyes plummeted even further.
Helena completely lost her mind.
*Smack!*
Before anyone could intervene, she delivered a vicious backhand across Sienna's face.
"You manipulative bitch! Celeste's life was almost ruined because of you!
And you dare stand here and slander her? Frame her? I'm taking a stand for Celeste today, and I'm going to teach you a lesson you'll never forget!"
Snarling, she raised her hand for another strike.
Jarred and Maloney immediately lunged forward to hold her back.
But Sienna had already shot up from the bench.
A terrifying, suffocating aura of violence radiated from her. She reached out and snatched a pair of medical scissors off a passing nurse's cart.
Her voice tore through the hallway, raw and completely unhinged. "Then let's all die! We can all die together!"
She lunged forward, driving the sharp scissors straight toward Helena.
Jarred and Maloney instinctively threw themselves in the crossfire to block the strike.
The scissors slashed violently across Jarred's hand, drawing a spray of crimson blood that stained the pristine floor.
Jarred's gaze turned somber. Watching Sienna throw herself at him again, he didn't retreat or attempt to dodge.
Something was fundamentally wrong with her.
Her pupils were dilated, her breathing erratic and ragged, and her muscles were strained so tightly they looked ready to snap.
This wasn't just a temper tantrum. This was a total psychological breakdown.
Right at that moment, the operating room doors swung open.
The lead surgeon walked out, his expression grim as he looked at Sienna. "Ms. Sloan, the surgery did not go well.
The patient has developed a severe post-operative infection and is in critical condition. We need you to sign this Critical Condition Notice right away. Furthermore...
We need you to sign an isolation consent form. We require full family cooperation during the quarantine period. As for... his chances of survival, we can only promise to do our best."
*Clatter.*
The medical scissors slipped from Sienna's fingers, hitting the floor.
In the dead silence of the hallway, only Helena's callous laughter echoed. "Critical condition? Hah, talk about karma! This is exactly what you get for hurting Celeste. Now your sickly brother is paying the price..."
