Jarred Sterling's gaze swept over the group, and wherever his eyes landed, a chilling silence followed.
Looking at the trembling men, he let out a soft scoff. "What? You had the guts to do it, but not the spine to admit it?"
Mr. Jennings finally couldn't hold it together. He shuffled forward a couple of steps, his voice pleading. "Mr. Sterling, we were foolish. We handled things poorly. Please forgive us this once, we'll never do it again!"
"We?"
Jarred raised an eyebrow. He leaned forward slightly, his voice light but sharp as a blade pressed against Mr. Jennings's throat.
"Is it just you bunch? Or did someone put you up to this?"
Terrified by the sheer ruthlessness in Jarred's eyes, Mr. Jennings shook his head frantically, his heart skipping a beat. "No, Mr. Sterling, we'd never have the nerve. It was..."
Mr. Jenkins opened his mouth, but the words caught in his throat. His gaze involuntarily darted toward Grandma Sterling for a split second before snapping back.
Catching his reaction, Jarred sneered. He leaned back against the sofa, casually toying with his phone, his fingertips tapping rhythmically against the case.
He gave a mocking smile. "Since no one is brave enough to confess, I guess I'll just have to use the process of elimination."
He unlocked his screen, pulled up a file, and waved it in their direction.
"Mr. Jennings, your son is getting his MBA in Boston, right? He graduates next year. That takes hard work."
The color instantly drained from Mr. Jennings's face.
Jarred's predatory gaze had already moved to the next man. "Mr. Forrester, your parents are convalescing in Switzerland. The air is great over there, though the winters can be a bit harsh. Elderly folks can't handle the cold."
Mr. Forrester shuddered violently, nearly collapsing onto the floor.
Jarred's thumb continued to scroll down the screen. He went down the line, one by one. Every name, every location landed like a perfectly aimed bullet.
"Mr. Sterling, please, no!"
The lawyers frantically begged for mercy, but Jarred remained expressionless, completely unfazed.
Seeing this, they turned their desperate pleas toward Grandma Sterling and Helena. "Mrs. Sterling, please, say something in our defense! We've worked for you for so many years..."
Grandma Sterling watched the chaotic scene unfold. Listening to the lawyers' heart-wrenching pleas, she finally couldn't take it anymore and knew the truth couldn't be hidden any longer.
She took a deep breath and spoke in a grim voice. "Enough! Stop talking. It was all my idea.
I ordered them to do it. The agreement, the penalty fees, I had Mr. Jennings handle all of it. If you want to settle the score, come at me."
The old woman assumed Jarred would, at the very least, show her a modicum of respect.
After all, since he and Sienna Sloan were basically divorced now, he wouldn't actually do anything to his own grandmother.
