But Jarred merely stared at her coldly. A mocking smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he issued a grim order to Declan. "Write this down. As of today, these six lawyers are fired.
Also, put the word out. Not just in the Capital, but nationwide. I don't want a single firm hiring them ever again."
Everyone in the room gasped in shock.
The next second, the room erupted into wails.
"Mr. Sterling! You can't do this!"
"We've worked in this industry for twenty years! You can't destroy our livelihoods!"
"Mrs. Sterling! Helena, please say something..."
Jarred stood up, looking down at the six men groveling on the floor with utter detachment.
"With every spineless, unethical lawyer like you out there, more innocent people get hurt.
Since you love doing dirty work for others so much, you don't need to work anymore. Beg your old master for a generous severance to fund your early retirement."
Helena panicked and stepped in. "Jarred, you have to know when to show mercy. Don't be so ruthless."
Celeste Carlyle chimed in with fake concern, "Jarred, what's done is done. Even if you kill them all right now, Sienna isn't going to get back together with you."
Jarred, who had been silent, shot her a look so dark and menacing that the temperature in the room seemed to drop.
Seeing he was immovable, Grandma Sterling's face fell. "Jarred, you're crossing the line! These lawyers have been with our family for years. Even if they made mistakes, they've worked hard.
You're driving them to ruin with a single word? Do you even respect me as your grandmother anymore?"
Jarred stared down at her, his smile dripping with sarcasm. "If I wasn't leaving you a way out, the one judging you right now wouldn't be me. It would be Grandpa."
At those words, all the color vanished from the old woman's face.
She knew full well that Grandpa adored Sienna and had always treated her like his own flesh and blood.
Tonight, he was simply making an example of the lawyers to send a message.
No matter how angry the women were, they didn't dare provoke him further.
Jarred grabbed his coat from the armrest and pulled it on with slow, deliberate movements.
His cold gaze swept over the women in the room, delivering one final warning. "From this day forward, no one interferes with my business with Sienna.
The more you try to get what you want, the harder I'll make sure you never get it."
His eyes drifted past Helena and Celeste before finally settling on his grandmother.
"Don't forget, she and I haven't signed the final papers yet. Whether we divorce or not is entirely up to me."
With that, a suffocating silence fell over the entire living room.
