Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 203

The doctor flipped through the medical chart, a hint of relief in his voice.

"He has a very strong will to live. Clinically speaking, that's crucial. A lot of times, it's even more effective than the medication itself."

Sienna's eyes stung with unshed tears. She knew Owen couldn't bear the thought of leaving her behind.

"However..."

The doctor closed the chart and looked at her with a serious expression. "Even though we pulled him back from the brink this time, his physical foundation is incredibly fragile. He won't survive another crisis like this.

You have to be exceptionally careful with his follow-up care and recovery, especially when it comes to preventing infections. Even a common cold could trigger severe complications."

"I understand." Sienna nodded, her gaze resolute. "I'll be vigilant. I won't let anything happen to him."

With Owen safe, the massive weight that had been crushing her chest for so long finally lifted.

Right now, the only thing left on her agenda was heading back to the States as soon as possible to finalize the divorce paperwork with Jarred.

But before she left, there was someone she needed to see.

Ever since Owen was transferred to Germany, Maloney had provided an immense amount of help behind the scenes.

No matter what, she owed him a face-to-face thank you for that favor.

Following the address on the business card Quentin Peters had given her, Sienna arrived at Maloney's company headquarters.

After the receptionist verified her information, she was respectfully escorted to the top-floor executive suite and directed to a sofa in the lounge area.

The receptionist smiled. "Ms. Sloan, Mr. Sterling is still wrapping up some business. Please make yourself comfortable here for a moment."

Sienna nodded and sipped the coffee a secretary had brought her.

The office was spacious and airy. Beyond the floor-to-ceiling windows lay an expansive open-air terrace garden, where a crisp breeze rustled through the foliage.

After sitting for a while, she still felt a bit suffocated. She decided to step outside for some fresh air and to take in the view.

She gently pushed open the terrace door, but the moment she took half a step out, she froze.

But who on earth would be discussing her with Maloney?

In the corner of the terrace, Maloney turned to look at her. The fleeting flash of panic and tension on his face vanished in an instant, replaced by his usual warm, polished demeanor.

Sienna took two steps forward, her gaze subconsciously sweeping the space behind him.

It was completely empty.

She had heard two distinct voices arguing just seconds ago.

Yet right now, aside from her and Maloney, there was no sign of a third person anywhere on the terrace.

The wind blew softly, the leaves rustling in a silence that felt entirely too eerie.

Had she misheard? Was she hallucinating?

Forcing herself to remain calm, Sienna gave a slight nod, her tone laced with awkwardness. "Sorry, Maloney. I didn't know you... you were out here."
