Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 213

A flash of astonishment crossed Jarred's eyes upon hearing his grandfather's words, but he quickly composed himself.

He knew how much his grandfather adored Sienna, so gifting her shares wasn't entirely surprising.

Sienna's heart pounded wildly. Instinctively, she pushed the agreement back. "Arthur, I can't accept this."

"You must accept it," Arthur replied in a tone that brokered no argument. "This is compensation from the entire Sterling family for all the grievances you've endured over the years.

Even if you and Jarred cut ties completely, you will always be the granddaughter I acknowledge."

Looking into Arthur's clouded but sincere eyes, Sienna felt a lump form in her throat.

The world chased wealth and power, but she had resolved from the beginning to draw a clean line and sever all ties with the Sterlings—and Jarred—after the divorce.

If she accepted these shares, she would be irrevocably bound to their family's interests for the rest of her life, unable to ever truly break free.

"I don't know the first thing about business," Sienna said, forcing an excuse as she pushed the document further away. "Giving me five percent is a waste. Please give it to someone else."

Arthur's expression darkened as he noted her unwavering resolve.

He stayed silent for a few seconds, then abruptly set down his teacup. "If you refuse to take it, then I won't allow this divorce."

Sienna's heart plummeted.

He had struck her exact weak point.

Arthur had lived a long time and seen it all.

He knew better than anyone just how desperately Sienna wanted this divorce.

Playing this card was far more effective than any gentle persuasion.

Pressing his advantage, he softened his tone. "You don't have to do anything with this five percent. You won't be involved in managing the company; just wait for the annual dividends.

Who knows what will happen with your brother's illness down the line? You need the money right now.

She took the pen from the lawyer and dragged the tip quickly across the paper.

The color drained from Jarred's face inch by inch, his expression morphing from hopeful anticipation to stiff shock, finally settling into cold indifference.

He knew exactly why Sienna didn't want the shares.

It wasn't because she feared the trouble or the responsibility.

She wanted absolutely nothing more to do with him or his family.

Yet, this woman who didn't even want a multi-million dollar fortune had accepted a gift she despised without a second thought, solely to secure her divorce from him.

Breaking free from him meant more to her than escaping the Sterling family ties.

The thought made Jarred let out a soft scoff, though the bitter sound seemed to physically ache in his chest.

Arthur nodded in satisfaction, signaling the lawyer to pack up the agreement. A smile finally returned to his face. "Alright, go finish your paperwork. Don't delay."
