Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 212

"Don't go." Sienna tightened her grip. "Stand right here and wait. You aren't going anywhere!"

Jarred raised an eyebrow, a careless smirk playing on his lips. "If I wasn't going to do this, I wouldn't have shown up."

He paused, his gaze turning somber. "But tell me, in your heart, am I really that untrustworthy?"

Sienna met his gaze, her voice as cold as ice. "That's because you've never done a single thing worthy of my trust. Count them yourself—how many times have you lied to me?"

Jarred's heart sank heavily.

He hadn't expected her to view him that way.

Just then, the intercom called their names.

Sienna tugged at Jarred to head over.

Suddenly, a burly figure blocked their path.

It was Arthur Sterling's personal bodyguard.

"Ms. Sloan, Mr. Sterling. Arthur has something to say. Please step over to the café next door."

Following the direction the bodyguard had angled his body, Sienna spotted Arthur's private car parked outside the Civil Registry Office.

The old man was being helped out by his guards, with his personal lawyer trailing behind him.

Sienna told the bodyguard, "They just called our number. We'll go over right after we finish the paperwork."

The bodyguard didn't budge, standing like a solid wall. "Unless you plan on skipping the paperwork today, Arthur demands you be there within two minutes."

Sienna furrowed her brow. "Do you know what this is about?"

The bodyguard shook his head. "I am not privy to that information. You will find out when you arrive."

The bodyguard's attitude was a direct reflection of Arthur's, and Sienna knew it.

She frowned and glanced at Jarred.

He maintained his lazy demeanor, hands tucked in his pockets, watching her with a half-smile.

It seemed as though whether they went through with the divorce or not made no difference to him.

He had offered almost his entire net worth as compensation, giving it all away without a second thought.

To hear his grandfather say it wasn't enough came as a genuine surprise.

Sienna looked up, her face filled with shock.

Arthur didn't explain further. He raised a hand, signaling the lawyer standing behind him.

The lawyer immediately stepped forward, pulled a document from his briefcase, and respectfully slid it in front of Sienna.

"This is a transfer agreement for core equity in The Sterling Group," Arthur said calmly.

Sienna glanced down at the document, her pupils shrinking sharply.

The Sterling Group represented half of the Capital's business empire.

"Arthur, what... what is the meaning of this?" she asked, her voice trembling with irrepressible panic.

Arthur replied, "Last night, I convened an emergency meeting of all shareholders regarding the original core shares of The Sterling Group held under my name. Everyone unanimously agreed that, effective immediately, five percent of those shares will be transferred to you, free of charge."
