Begging for a Second Chance (Sienna Sloan and Jarred Sterling) novel Chapter 293

"The scattered droplets definitely belong to him," Sienna noted, her gaze sharp and cold.

"As for that massive pool of blood that was so intentionally scrubbed away, I've already sent a sample for expedited testing. I can guarantee you, that is absolutely not his blood."

Luna chimed in, "It's pretty obvious now. Someone used a massive amount of unknown blood to create a smokescreen and stage the scene. The actual accident didn't happen anywhere near this staircase."

Dr. Clayton's expression shifted from sheer shock to the deep, burning anger of a man who realized he had been played.

He had served the Sterling family for twenty years, and the old man trusted him implicitly. Realizing he had been purposefully deceived during such a critical moment was entirely unacceptable.

"Ms. Sloan," his voice tightened with indignation, "what else do you suspect?"

"I..."

Before Sienna could finish her sentence, a soft, delicate voice suddenly drifted over from the doorway.

"Well, this looks lively!"

All three heads snapped up in unison.

Celeste sat in her wheelchair, being slowly pushed forward by a maid. She wore an innocent, puzzled expression as her gaze swept over their slightly panicked faces. "Dr. Clayton, Ms. Sloan, what are you all doing down here?"

Luna reacted instantly, slipping the chemical kit back into Sienna's bag in the blink of an eye.

But no matter how fast she moved, Sienna still caught the subtle, dark gleam flashing through Celeste's eyes.

"Dr. Clayton was helping me review Owen's CT scans," Sienna lied smoothly, naturally stuffing her hands into her trench coat pockets. "We happened to be passing by the stairs, so I casually asked him a few questions about what happened that day."

Dr. Clayton adjusted his glasses, smiling as he played along. "Yes, Ms. Sloan is very concerned about his injuries. She asked some very detailed questions."

"You are so thoughtful, Ms. Sloan," Celeste smiled, though the warmth of it was chilling enough to make one's blood run cold.

"Well, carry on. I'm still a bit weak from just being discharged, so I'm going upstairs to rest."

With that, she and the maid headed toward the elevator.
