The shout struck like a bolt of lightning, instantly shattering the thick sexual tension in the room.
Sienna stiffened, a rush of pure panic flooding her chest.
Mustering every ounce of her strength, she shoved the man away with everything she had.
Jarred hadn't expected such a violent reaction.
With his injured back, the sheer force of her push sent him stumbling backward.
Throwing him off balance, his back crashed viciously into the solid wood cabinet in the corner, the sharp edge digging perfectly into the deepest part of his wound.
"...Ugh."
Jarred let out a stifled groan, sucking in a sharp breath. A sheen of cold sweat instantly broke out on his forehead, his flushed skin turning paper-white.
He blindly grabbed the edge of the nearby desk, barely managing to keep himself upright.
It felt as if his back had been ripped wide open, the suffocating wave of pain making his breaths shudder.
Sienna, completely oblivious to his suffering, didn't notice a thing.
She was too busy frantically smoothing out her clothes, fighting to untangle a strand of hair caught in her buttons.
By the time she finally looked presentable, she glanced up to see Jarred with his head bowed, looking uncharacteristically weak.
To Sienna, the sight was nothing short of unbelievable.
Who was Jarred Sterling?
An omnipotent force of nature with terrifying physical stamina.
Especially in moments of intimacy, he always dominated; he was never the one to call it quits midway.
She tucked a stray lock of hair behind her ear, a mocking sneer curving her lips. "Really, Jarred? You found your release... that fast?"
Jarred lifted his eyes. His gaze was lethally dark, looking as though he wanted to swallow her whole.
"Shut up," he rasped roughly.
"Dr. Sloan, come here! Let me introduce you to the support team."
She walked over, her gaze sweeping past the group before coming to a dead halt.
That towering, broad-shouldered figure—who else could it be but Jarred, the very man who had just cornered her in the lounge?
Jarred stood among the crowd, his posture immaculate and his expression indifferent as he conversed with the captain.
Feeling her stare, he turned his head slightly. His eyes met hers, as cool and detached as if she were a total stranger.
Sienna instinctively whipped her head around, staring back at the lounge.
When the hell did he get out here?
She had just left the room. How could he possibly have beaten her outside?
"Dr. Sloan?" Caleb's voice snapped her back to reality. "Come, let me make the introductions."
Caleb went down the line, and Sienna nodded mechanically, her mind an absolute chaotic mess.
