Adelina understood the urgency and didn't mind at all. She nodded graciously. "Alright, you two go ahead. I'll catch a cab back on my own, don't worry about me."
Vivienne flashed her a friendly smile. After Willow printed out the medical records, the two hurried off.
Caspian's place wasn't far away; just a fifteen-minute drive.
Vivienne and Caspian were incredibly close, so much so that she even knew the passcode to his front door.
The moment they opened the door, Caspian was on the phone with the Landon family.
Willow clearly heard Beatrice saying, "Caspian, the press conference is tomorrow. Make sure you're well-prepared. I trust you won't let me down, right?"
Caspian lowered his eyes and remained silent. Beatrice didn't mind, just laughed. "I believe you wouldn't want to carry the reputation of being an ungrateful wretch, would you?"
With that, she hung up, sounding as though she already held all the winning cards.
Vivienne completely lost it. Without a word, she snatched the phone and blocked Beatrice's number!
Caspian looked at her in surprise, though he wasn't angry. He just asked gently, "Why are you here?"
Vivienne sneered, her words dripping with sarcasm. "What? Did my arrival interrupt your grand display of gratitude? Caspian! Can you be smart for once! Do you even know how badly you've been played all these years?"
As Vivienne spoke, her voice hitched with a sob, her eyes uncontrollably reddening. As Caspian's best friend, she knew exactly how the Landon family had ruthlessly squeezed him dry over the years.
Forcing him to take Tessa as a student was just the tip of the iceberg. What was far worse was how they constantly broke down his sense of self-worth.
The Landon Group had investments in the entertainment industry, but every time they launched a project, it was strictly music-based reality shows. Without fail, Caspian was forced to be a guest judge.
Whenever the Landon family wanted to boost someone's career, they forced Caspian to pull strings for them behind the scenes.
Caspian despised it, feeling it was deeply unfair to the public, but they would wield his debt of gratitude like a weapon. In the end, he was forced to personally mentor those artists. The ones who had talent, he would naturally elevate; those who were hopeless, he would coldly ignore.
The Landon family was never satisfied and fought with him constantly over it. But they refused to let go of their cash cow, so no matter how ugly the argument got, they would inevitably come crawling back with more demands.
Caspian had lived in this toxic cycle for five excruciating years.
Vivienne had watched helplessly, unable to convince him otherwise.
