Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 155

She was even sweeter and more compassionate than he had imagined. No wonder someone like Lucian was so obsessed with her.

While Sterling was lost in thought, Willow leaned over, her slender, delicate fingers gently gripping his arm.

The first thing his senses registered was her faint floral scent. It wasn't overwhelming, just intoxicatingly pleasant.

Then came the warmth of her touch. Everyone had a body temperature, but somehow, hers felt entirely different.

For a bizarre second, Sterling realized his own arm was trembling.

He wasn't sure if he was thrilled by Willow's touch, or ecstatic at the prospect of stealing Lucian's beloved.

It was probably both.

The chaotic emotions surged within him like a deafening symphony.

Almost involuntarily, he gripped her hand back. He held onto her slender wrist tightly, his palm mapping the fragile bones beneath her skin.

Startled by his sudden strength, Willow looked down at him in surprise.

Sterling instantly dropped his gaze, apologizing with boyish innocence. "Sorry. Pure reflex. I thought you were my crutch for a second."

Mentioning the crutch only made Willow feel more guilty.

The snapped pieces of wood on the ground were glaring evidence of her clumsiness. Granted, she had been looking at her phone, but surely a crippled man wouldn't purposely ram into her.

(combined with above basically).

If he shattered his leg even worse, the pain would be excruciating.

Resigned, Willow helped him up. Sterling leaned heavily against her, his sheer weight making her vision swim for a second.
