Sterling sat there obediently, listening without a single complaint.
Willow breathed a sigh of relief. Thank God he was fine. If she had permanently crippled him, she would have never forgiven herself.
She paid his medical bills and handed him her number. "If you experience any complications later, just give me a call."
With that, she turned to leave.
But in the next second, a firm hand grabbed her wrist.
Willow looked back in confusion. Sterling sat there with lowered eyes, his eyelashes trembling as he radiated absolute vulnerability.
"I snuck into the country on my own. I never expected to break my leg. I don't have any family here, and the doctor said I shouldn't go outside. I don't know anyone... so, could you please... bring me meals every day?"
It was a perfectly reasonable excuse. Sterling even added politely, "I'll pay you! How about a thousand dollars a day just for the delivery fee? What do you say?"
Sterling was absolutely certain she wouldn't refuse.
After all, his background check showed that Willow grew up in poverty. Even though she had recently gone viral for her piano compositions, she still had to be strapped for cash.
His money was easy. She had no reason not to bite.
But to his total shock, Willow just raised an eyebrow and laughed.
"You really have more money than sense, don't you? For a thousand dollars a day, you can hire a premium caregiver to wait on you hand and foot."
Sterling blinked innocently. "But you're the only person I know. I don't know anyone else..."
Willow suddenly felt like she was being extorted emotionally. But dealing with a foreigner, there was only so much she could explain.
Maybe the cultural norms were just different where he was from. He was probably paranoid, which made sense.
