But at this moment, she simply didn't have the energy to overthink.
The next second, someone hauled Willow up and shoved her forward.
Blindfolded and unable to see, she could only rely on the unmistakable scent of dust and decay filling the air.
If she had to guess, it was likely an abandoned factory.
She estimated that she had been unconscious for about two hours.
That meant they had to be in the northern part of the city. The old industrial ruins there perfectly matched her current surroundings.
Forcing herself to stay calm, Willow didn't struggle, knowing that provoking her captors would only lead to unnecessary suffering.
She needed to protect herself first to find a chance to escape.
Noticing her compliance, one of the kidnappers scoffed. "Smart girl."
Willow's eyelashes fluttered against the blindfold, but she remained silent.
Five minutes later, a heavy kick to the back of her legs forced her to collapse. She hit the ground hard, her knees taking the brunt of the impact.
Though she had gained a little weight recently, her frame was still fragile. The shock sent a painful numbness through her bones, and she gritted her teeth to stifle a cry of pain.
She tried to negotiate. "What do you want with me? Is it money? If you let me go, I can transfer millions of dollars to you right now, and I swear I won't call the cops."
The kidnapper let out a cruel laugh. "Everyone knows the Shaw family kicked you out. Where would you get that kind of cash? Cut the crap."
Remaining composed, she knew these thugs only cared about status. Instead of arguing, she played along. "I'm still a Shaw. My parents left me equity before they died. I can easily get my hands on that much."
As soon as the words left her mouth, a familiar, mocking chuckle echoed through the air.
The sound made Willow's entire body freeze.
