A flicker of knowing satisfaction passed through Xavier's eyes. He knew it. This entire charade was just her throwing a fit for attention. The moment he dangled a little bait, she came running right back.
Just like when they were kids.
Xavier's voice remained icy, dripping with condescension. "Willow, you have exactly one hour. When you arrive, you will apologize to Tessa without any—"
Before he could finish his sentence, the call disconnected.
Listening to the dial tone, fury seized Xavier's chest, squeezing his heart until it ached!
He was going to have to discipline that wretched temper of hers! They had spoiled her completely rotten!

Back at the apartment, Willow tossed her phone aside and went back to savoring her food. As for Xavier's one-hour deadline? He could go straight to hell!
Showing up at all was already doing them a favor!
She spent a full hour enjoying her meal before leisurely heading back with the takeout boxes.
The only reason she hadn't eaten with Lucian was to avoid the sheer awkwardness. If this brain-damaged man got it into his head that she was madly in love with him, it would be a disaster. She wanted his protection, sure, but not like this. What would happen when he regained his memories? He'd kill her!
Lost in thought, she pushed open the door and immediately locked eyes with Lucian on the couch.
He looked up, a complex emotion swirling in those silver-grey depths. Willow froze. For some inexplicable reason, it almost looked like... pity?
All she did was buy breakfast. What was there to be pitiful about?
She couldn't understand him at all. It was impossible to decipher a damaged brain.
She placed the food on the table. "I got a hot breakfast sandwich. Not sure if you're used to this kind of food."
