Lucian's gaze lingered on the milk toxicology report, his eyes darkening severely.
He distinctly remembered that when he first met Willow at the wedding, shattered glass and a sticky pool of milk lay spilled across the floor!
He hadn't realized its significance at the time, but thinking back on it now...
The Shaw family had genuinely intended to assault Willow that day. If anyone other than him had walked into that room, Willow would have been destroyed!
The mere thought of it painted a murderous glint across his eyes.
He used to think the Shaw family was simply biased, but now it was clear—they were purely malicious!
Even a stranger wouldn't employ such vile tactics to ruin Willow, yet her own flesh-and-blood brother had orchestrated it.
No wonder Willow hated them with such burning intensity!
Blood relations didn't excuse crimes. Xavier's actions were illegal, plain and simple!
Unable to hold back, he grabbed Willow's wrist.
The blistering heat of Lucian's palm pressed against her skin, sending her pulse into a chaotic frenzy.
Willow's eyelashes fluttered. She instinctively tried to pull her hand back, but when she turned her head, she was met with Lucian's eyes, swimming with immense heartache.
She froze. Forcing down her turbulent emotions, she gently slipped her hand from his grasp.
As the soft warmth left his palm, an empty void hollowed out Lucian's chest.
He looked at Willow, unable to stop himself from asking, "Do you hate me?"
Willow paused at the question. She carefully tucked the court receipt into her handbag before replying softly, "Lucian, it's not a matter of hating you. I'm just a neat freak when it comes to relationships. I don't engage with men who have fiancées unless absolutely necessary."
Willow had to admit that when Xavier kidnapped her, Lucian swooping in like a savior had made her heart race.
Even now, she couldn't help but crave the intoxicating safety she felt in that moment.
