Willow shook her head, then as if remembering something, she turned to look at Lucian. "What about you? Why weren't you around this morning? Did Sterling lure you away too?"
If Lucian had been around, the moment Willow found out this was a proposal banquet hosted by the Jagger family, she definitely would have asked him.
It would likely have been exposed before it even started.
Lucian paused for a second. "There was an issue with a recent project. The workers cut corners and built a shoddy structure, which was caught red-handed by inspectors. I got the news early this morning and rushed over to completely halt the project. I'm having it inspected from top to bottom so no one ends up losing their life over it..."
Adelina gave him a surprised look. "There aren't many capitalists with a conscience like yours left."
It was just...
Adelina felt a sense of awe. Willow was truly remarkable, managing to make even the incredibly mysterious heir to the Jagger family fall to his knees for her.
For the past twenty-odd years, Lucian had never once shown his face in the public eye.
He had made an exception for Willow this time, even having such a nasty fallout with his own brother.
If someone had told Adelina about this before today, she absolutely would have scoffed at it, thinking they were delusional.
Who could have thought reality was even more surreal?
Lucian didn't respond to Adelina, instead turning to look at Willow. "Do you want to meet Mr. Yale?"
Willow raised an eyebrow, knowing that with the Jagger family's status, they could definitely help her.
But she had no intention of using it.
In matters like this, Willow preferred to rely on her own hard work. That way, when she succeeded, she could firmly believe she deserved it, rather than constantly wondering if Mr. Yale only reluctantly accepted her because of the Jagger family.
Besides, Willow didn't want Lucian to help her that much.
Otherwise, if they truly developed a romantic relationship in the future, wouldn't she be forced into a subservient position because she owed him so many favors?
She didn't like that.
