Betrayed by Blood: My Second Life as a Queen novel Chapter 25

It was only then that Willow finally understood why there were dark circles under Lucian's eyes.

Had he spent the entire night searching for a way to fix her jade bracelet?

She couldn't help but wonder—he had lost his memory, was completely alone in a strange city, and yet he had gone to these lengths. How hard must that have been for him?

Moreover...

Even her own flesh and blood didn't treat her this well. Yet this man she had randomly picked off the street was showing her genuine care.

Her eyes trembled slightly, and she found herself completely speechless.

Lucian looked at her in confusion. "Do you not like it?"

He could tell exactly how much that bracelet meant to her. He had originally wanted to have it repaired for her himself, but he was worried that if the craftsmanship was subpar, it would only break her heart all over again. So, he had found this compromise, giving her the option to decide.

But her reaction left him feeling a bit lost.

He opened his mouth to say something, but in the next second, Willow threw her arms around him.

She was shaking, hugging him impossibly tight. "I love it. Thank you, Lucian."

Lucian froze, his entire body going rigid with shock.

This was the first time he had ever been this close to a woman. At this distance, he could feel the intoxicating warmth of her body and breathe in her unique, sweet scent.

Her fragile neck was right in front of him, her fair skin flushed with a soft pink. Every inch of her was breathtaking.

His fingers curled slightly. In that fleeting moment, a dark, predatory urge washed over him to sink his teeth into the delicate blue vein pulsing at her neck, to drag his teeth over her skin until he left a permanent, crimson mark...

Willow had no idea what was going through Lucian's head. It wasn't until she felt the frantic, heavy thud of his heartbeat against her chest that she snapped out of her daze and hurriedly pulled away.

The contact had been brief, but she had to admit, Lucian had an incredible physique—broad shoulders, narrow waist, and entirely solid muscle.

Once she was rich, she'd definitely have to hire a few pool boys just like him.

Lucian didn't miss the deep red flush covering her ears, glowing like polished jewels. She looked stunningly adorable, and an uncharacteristic urge to tease her bubbled up in his chest.

"Willow, does getting a hug from your fake fiancé really make you this shy?"

She shot him a glare. "Get your heart rate under control before you talk to me."
