Xavier froze. The next second, a deep terror flashed in his eyes, his gaze darting around in absolute avoidance.
Lucian didn't give him an inch to escape. "You didn't even bother to vet the guy. If Willow had ended up with a monster... Hah, how is it wrong to say you owe her a life?"
He didn't spell it out, but the implied horrors were painfully obvious to everyone.
Because of that, Xavier's agony deepened. He ordered with a trembling voice, "Stop it..."
Lucian scoffed, the mockery practically spilling from his eyes. "Xavier, you had the guts to do it, but you don't have the guts to hear about it?"
It felt as if every bone in Xavier's body had been hollowed out. Enduring the bone-deep pain, his forehead broke out in a cold sweat.
Willow laughed. "Xavier, stop humiliating yourself. I only came here to take back what's mine. Other than that, I don't want to say a single word to you."
Xavier lowered his eyes in defeat, his voice incredibly hoarse. "I understand."
Silas wanted to protest, but Xavier shut him down immediately. "Go tell Tessa to bring Willow's things back. Whatever she took, she needs to return."
"But..." Silas tried to argue, only to be cut off again.
"Those things were left for Willow by Mom in the first place."
Seeing the iron resolve in Xavier's eyes, Silas knew arguing was pointless.
He shot a glare at Willow, secretly gritting his teeth.
Hadn't the last decade or so been perfectly fine?
Why, in just a few short months, did Willow have to push things to this absolute extreme?
Now everyone was miserable. Was she finally satisfied?
As for the grievances Willow had just laid bare, Silas felt zero empathy; he hadn't been there when it happened.
Besides, it was just a man. Why couldn't she just let him go? At the end of the day, she was just being petty.
Seething with resentment, Silas was forced to call Tessa.
Tessa's voice trembled. "Silas, can I just not go? I'm not feeling well..."
"Tessa," Silas sighed helplessly. "If you don't come, Willow will probably enforce a court mandate. She's basically a lunatic right now."
Tessa's pupils contracted. She had just regained her footing in the Landon household because of her pregnancy. If Willow threw another massive fit, everything would be ruined.
Arthur was a man who valued reputation above all else.
