Willow took a deep breath, trying desperately to recall the details, but the fragmented memories in her mind offered nothing more.
A dull ache throbbed in her head, painful enough to drain the color from her face.
Lucian noticed it instantly and reached out to support her. "Willow?"
As Willow snapped out of her daze, Tessa's tearful, wretched voice echoed through the room. "Are you only going to be satisfied when you've completely destroyed me, Willow? Fine! I admit it! I admit that I envy you, that I'm jealous of you! So I had a replica of your locket made, hoping that maybe I could be loved just as much as you are. Is that a crime? Why do you have to push me to the brink like this?"
Her shrill voice carried far down the hallway.
Less than two seconds later, Silas burst through the door, glaring at Willow with the eyes of a sworn enemy. "Haven't you caused enough trouble?!"
Willow looked up at him and let out an abrupt laugh. "Silas, aren't you the least bit curious? Back when you were being tracked by that stalker and almost had acid thrown on you, who do you think leaked your location?"
The sudden shift in topic caught Silas completely off guard. He froze for a second before snapping back with venom, "Who else could it have been but you?!"
Willow just smiled. "When that happened, Xavier had already kicked me out of the house. I hadn't been back in three months. How would I have known anything about your schedule? You and I were always at each other's throats, and you certainly never reported your whereabouts to me. Do you really think your suspicion makes any sense?"
Silas was stunned. In that fleeting moment, a memory clicked into place. His return that day had been completely spontaneous. He had only rushed back to comfort a visibly upset Tessa and had left after just three hours.
Logically, besides his assistant, Tessa was the only person on earth who knew his whereabouts. And since his assistant had taken the acid splash to the arm to protect him, it obviously wasn't him.
Could it... could it have been Tessa?
No, that was impossible.
Tessa had always cared for him so deeply. She would cry just reading the hateful comments left by his anti-fans. There was no way she could ever orchestrate something so malicious!
Lost in his own turbulent thoughts, Silas completely missed the brief flash of panic that crossed Tessa's face.
Silas only remained silent for five seconds, but to Tessa, it felt like an agonizing year.
Unable to bear the tension, she finally looked up, her voice trembling with a sob. "Are you trying to hint to Silas that I did this? Willow, how can you deliberately sabotage our relationship like this? Will you only be happy when every single person in this world hates me?"
Silas's wavering resolve solidified instantly. Of course. This was just another one of Willow's sick mind games. She was just trying to drive a wedge between them!
Tessa was too kind to ever do something so horrific.
