Besides, Sterling had always acted like a complete lunatic since they were children. One second he would be calling him 'brother' with sickening affection, and the next, he'd try to shove a knife straight into his heart.
To Lucian, his current behavior was no different from his usual insanity, just slightly more manic.
Lucian's tone remained calm and measured. "You've crossed so many people that I'm far from the only one who wants you dead. But if I made a move, I wouldn't miss."
In other words, he had nothing to do with the hit-and-run at Westwood Manor.
The smile on Sterling's lips vanished instantly. "Haven't you already hired someone to run me over once before?"
Lucian scoffed. "Do you have proof? Besides, slaughtering each other within the Jagger family is strictly forbidden."
He had never intended to take Sterling's life.
At the time, Madam Margaret was critically ill. Lucian hadn't wanted to cause unnecessary chaos. If Sterling had actually died, Dominic Jagger would never have let it go.
If the resulting fallout had worsened Madam Margaret's condition, Lucian would never have forgiven himself.
Hearing this, the last trace of Sterling's smirk evaporated. He whispered, "One day, you're going to regret not finishing me off when you had the chance."
Lucian chuckled softly. "Rest assured, you'll never get the opportunity to make me regret it."
After all, why would a lion lose sleep over the survival of a pathetic ant?
Sterling could easily detect the sheer contempt hidden beneath Lucian's aristocratic composure. He stayed silent, but his eyes grew darker, and every glance he shot toward Willow dripped with an even heavier, suffocating possessiveness.
Willow happened to meet his gaze. She furrowed her brow in disgust and unapologetically flipped him off.
What a two-faced freak! Acting like he was pledging his loyalty to her while secretly colluding with Tessa the whole time.
Just looking at him made her sick!
Instead of getting angry, Sterling merely let out a low chuckle. He wanted nothing more than to grab that beautiful hand of hers and press it against his lips, kissing it over and over again.
