Tessa's breath hitched violently. "Willow, murder is a crime!" she forced out through gritted teeth.

Willow scoffed, firing back, "You just tried to have me infected with HIV and syphilis. Isn't that the same as trying to kill me? Why didn't you care about the law then? Since I'm going to die anyway, why should I wait for you to ruin me? I might as well do society a favor and take out the trash right now. Don't you agree?"

Tessa's stomach cramped with sheer fury. She knew Willow was absolutely right. Anticipating resistance, Tessa had brought ten men, assuming their sheer numbers would overpower any tricks Willow tried to pull.

But who could have predicted that Willow would show up with a loaded gun?!

The thugs she had hired were greedy scavengers who would gladly kill or burn things down for the right price.

But they were equally cowardly. None of them were willing to throw their lives away for a paycheck.

Seeing that she couldn't command them anymore, Tessa's rage boiled over. Combined with the angry, swollen handprints on her face, her expression morphed into something truly hideous.

Willow impatiently pressed her. "Not willing? Fine. Then let's die together."

She leveled the barrel directly at Tessa. Tessa stared down the dark muzzle, faint wisps of gunpowder smoke still drifting from the steel.

The fresh bullet crater in the dirt was a glaring reminder of the lethal danger she was in.

Tessa braced herself, opening her mouth to argue, but in the next second, Willow thumbed the hammer back and rested her index finger on the trigger.
